I just read the article on the home page on Von Wafer. It summed his signing up pretty well, but I think people need to realize the guy is just taking the place of Michael Finley and that's an upgrade. Unless he has a great season shooting the ball he will be the 11th -13th man on the bench unless we have injuries. Don't get me wrong he will have his moments during the season but we will acquire another wing and that guy along with Daniels will likely be our back up wings off the bench with Wafer and Bradley likely pushing them in practice for minutes.

I think you are right on as far as what his role is, and he is an upgrade over Finely, who was basically shot when we got him.  However, since we lost TA there is a need for a guy to step up to backup the SG and SF spots.  Obviously we have Quis but he was not good for most of last seaosn and was hurt for a lot of it as well.

Maybe Bradley can step in for some of those minutes, but he can't really at the SF spot.  That's where everything becomes more uncertain.  We still need to shore up the backup SF position with another player.  Until we do, Wafer is not in the Finley role quite because more will be asked for him.

If we get a solid backup SF, then I think everyone will feel much better and more certain of the situation.

So he's gonna be the guy that takes Daniels' minutes this season?

Hmm, it looks more like he's TA's replacement.  In which case that's a huge downgrade.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

The Celtics are basically taking a flyer on the guy, to see if the lightbulb finally turns on.

Much happier taking a risk on someone with potential than a washed up Vet like Hughes. Danny has done this before and kind of works. He likes people that can play multiple roles in case someone dose not work out or in case of injury. Ray, Quis and Wafer are similar builds Quisy is the most versatile. Right now we either play with two SG's when Paul sits (and he must sit this year) or we play Gaffney. Not sure that Rudy adds much over Quisy or Wafer; West is redundant with everyone above and Bradley too. We may have to wait until we have more trade leverage with some of the players we just signed to get a real Finley replacement.

Maybe an overreaction.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I can guarantee Wafer's impact on this team won't be even close to Tony's last year.

I agree, Von Wafer seems like a fool as well... since he’s signed it seems like he’s just sitting on Twitter until 3 AM trying to get laid. IMO he shouldn’t even make the team.

I don't think he's gonna make it, my money is on Mario West.

Can someone explain to me how the injury system works in the NBA.  I thought the C's would have a roster exception while Perk is unable to play.  It doesn't make sense to me that the C's would be unable to carry both Wafer and West into the season.

Sorry, not even if a player is out the whole season - sucks.
Wafer is getting pressure from all sides. Lasme, West, must be a tough situation. He is a better shooter than Tony will ever be and has  decent ability to finish. Time will tell.

You can never have more than 15 during the season.  I think there's some exception where if your whole team is pretty injured you can be granted special permission.

Teams have 15 player rosters, with 12 active spots and 3 inactive one.  It's anticipated that teams will use these 3 inactive spots to accommodate injured players.

This system replaced the old "injured reserve" system, described by Larry Coon as follows:

Quote
Injured Reserve is the previous name for the Inactive List. It was originally intended for players who were injured and unable to play, however teams often used it as a convenient place to stash extra players. While a medical reason was required for players to be put on Injured Reserve, the league did not insist on an independent physician confirming the diagnosis. Thus it was common for a seemingly healthy player to suddenly develop "back spasms" right before rosters were cut to 12 players, and spend the entire season on Injured Reserve as a result. With the current CBA they gave up the ghost, dropped the medical requirement, and changed "injured" to "inactive." (The cynic will note that marginal NBA players seem to have a lot fewer back spasms nowadays.)

In extreme circumstances, where teams have several injured players, they can apply for an exemption to go over the 15 player limit, but these are very rarely granted.
