If the alternatives were this and trading for some albatross just to do "something" then I'm all for it. Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don't make, right?!
Depends on what you mean by an albatross contract. As long as it was two years or less, I would've done it.
And this is why I would've liked to see Posey back in green. He's not worth 6 million dollars, but as I've been saying all week, he's better than nothing, which is what we have now.
I would imagine the Hornets would beg to differ. I was 100% in favor of trading for Prince because he could help this team, cost us less than paying Sheed, and at the end of the year we could cut ties if it didn't work out. Posey of 08 is not Posey of today and he will likely continue to slide. Being in my late 30's I can promise you that each year his lateral quickness is making huge declines which means his defensive prowess is going to do the same. I was a big fan of James while here and wanted to resign him at reasonable numbers, however that is an example of a contract that I don't want. He can't CLEARLY make us a better team. If DA thought so and he was available then he would have done it. The biggest clear thing we know is no one of value was available at a reasonable deal or else he would have pulled the trigger.
I was in favor of Prince too, and would've preferred him over Posey too.
However, he only has 1 year left on his deal (which actually makes him valuable in a trade too) and clearly has more game left than Posey.
However, a) a straight up trade wouldn't have worked and b) the Pistons probably wanted Baby if not more.
I have no delusions about Posey being '08 Posey. Unlike '08, though, we don't need him to play the 2, 3, and some 4. All we'd need him to do is play 10-15 mpg backing up PP. And I think there would've been a pretty good shot he could've done that.
And it wouldn't have hurt us either. Now we have nothing. Posey couldn't have made it worse than that. He only has two years left on his deal, and wouldn't interfere with anything else we're doing.
Oh well...
