Was just on conference call with Ainge and the media and I asked him about the Sheed situation and he said that situation "should be resolved soon."  and later clarified "before training camp" and went so far as to say "shortly"

From his words and tone it sounds like it will happen in the next few days.

he said that he's happy with the team as is but may try to add another perimeter player and it will most likely be via a vet. minimum signing.

I predict that we sign Hughes and buy out Sheed - not the ideal situation, but oh well

By that, I take it that Sheed's contract will not be used in a trade. I think that's a mistake.

Thanks for the info Jeff.

So that means we'll soon know what will happen with Sheed's contract and who we will probably end up with.

Btw perimeter player via vet min? Who is left in the FA that fits that bill?

Thank you Jeff.

Is there a site that links to the conference call?

That way all of us Celtic junkies can listen to it?

Interesting. I wonder if that means a trade, or just a simple filing of paperwork.

Although I love the idea of trading him, BBD, and a pick for Prince, it isn't necessarily a mistake to not trade his contract and instead buy him out. Trading for someone just because you have this piece doesn't make it smart. If we can't add a player who will have a solid impact on this seasons bench, yet at the same time keeps us from being strapped over the next few years, then it is smart to buy him out. I don't want Danny trading for garbage just so that he doesn't "waste" Sheed's contract.

Is Cleveland enough under the cap right now to allow for a swap of Sheed for Anthony Parker?

Would so much rather have Parker over Hughes, Stackhouse, or just about any other FA wing still on the market.

It'll be a trade for a trade exception.  Simple.  Cash and a 2nd rounder to the other team.  Sheed retires.  Roster spot created, vet min player (Hughes or other) signed.  Trade exception to be used in February, when we know what the team's real needs are.

That's my prediction, at least.

If that's what comes to pass, that's a real blemish on Ainge's offseason dealings.  If he could move Sheed for a trade exception, that would be an acceptable Plan B.  (of course, I'm talking like I'm the one determining what's acceptable and what's not)

What team has sufficient cap room to absorb Sheed's salary without giving anything back?

Nets, Kings, Wolves are the only three I can think of who might. There's not many out there.

I doubt the Nets help a division rival.

That leaves Sacto and Minnie. Ainge has done deals with Petrie before, so perhaps there's some rapport there. Kahn is a wildcard.

Agreed.  Hughes would be useless.  Parker would contribute.
