the Miami Heat select PF DAVID WEST

I have an irrational hatred for David West. Great pick, don't kid me, but for some reason I despize the guy.
He's kind of a hot head, I remember seeing him getting in the face of an opposing player on several occasions.

That being said if he were on the Celtics you would love him.
He's an annoying player.

Chippy without wanting to do the hard work on the boards or defensively. He gets very cheap/nasty whenever another PF shoves him around because he hates getting musculed around.

I think he's fallen off the past few years.

his attitude is questionable, but he played every game last year and 76 in each of the previous two.  I think his fall-off had a lot to do with the injurey problems of cp3 and a lack of other scoring options besides him and Collison
I worry whenever I see player get paid and have a big year, and then suddenly stop rebounding hard and defending well.

But even with those warts he's still a very good player. Chippy isn't a bad thing anyways, if he channels it into winning/playing hard. (CP3 is chippy too!)
Take David West off the Hornets and put Glen Davis in his place and New Orleans would have won just as many games last season.

David West was the equivalent of a mediocre backup PF last season.

Whaaaaaaat? the guy put up 19/8/3 at 50% from the field in 81 games.  How is that equivalent to a mediocre backup PF?

Glenn Davis is not putting up numbers like that playing 36 minutes/game for a full season, it's really not even worth debating.

Just a couple seasons ago the Hornets were making a deep playoff push -- The CP3/West 2-man game was as potent as any in the league.  What changed last season? One of the best PG's in the game missed half the year.  Darren Collison is a very good young player but he doesn't raise other teammates' games like Paul does.  When your only other 2 scoring options are rookies you're going to have a tough year as a team...put David West next to Steve Nash and you have that dynamic duo from 2009; i'd also bet the Hornets are a playoff contender this coming season.

Apparently it costs more to move up from the 3rd to the 2nd as it does to move up a full round in the 1st.  Wowza.  There's some good value being paid right now.
