I think GT17 is getting a lot of unfair flack...  keep in mind, he got: 1) the most productive player in the deal, and 2) the highest draft pick in the deal.

And thats why Roy was a winner last year.  He is playing for 10 minutes and makes one of the best trades of the draft.  Not sure what Philly was thinking.  They Trade Boozer and Parker, two class acts and productive players with experience for a team destroyer in Randolph and somebody that hasnt proven anything in Gay.

I was actually incredibly scared that jason kidd was gonna outplay tony parker, i had to deal him.
Now you wont have to worry about it, no way a team with a core of Gay and Randolph playing at C nonetheless sniffs the playoffs
Why not?

They did in the real NBA and that's with a much more top heavy field.

Randolph is a 21/12 guy, and Gay adds another 20/6.  If the right role players are put around them, that's potentially a good foundation.

Sure Randolph is Productive but he is a downgrade from Boozer.  There is a reason the guy has been bouncing around the league in real life.

And I say this because Randolph is a kiss of death for any team in these drafts.
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

True, but - if I have it right? - the deal also looks like this:

1.25, 2.6, 3.whatever, 6.25
in return for
1.22, 2.27, 4.29

But I do give him credit for weathering the traditional CB Draft hazing so well. (TP.)

And still plenty of time to turn it around.

So its the perception rather than the actual basketball play?

I'll say again Gay and Randolph were the best two players on a 40 win team in a West which was much more top heavy than this game is likely to be.

Part of the problem is also that he inherited a team.

I would never consider drafting David West for a team I ran. I hate that guy.

Moved bargs to get back into the 4th round... thats why he went, I inherited this team and wanted to put my own stamp on it, hence why I am trying to move maggette too. If anyone is interested just looking for draft picks for a starting wing.

I think you ought to have made peace with the injury concerns. Or continued to shop both players. You're going to have a hard time putting together a starting five that's better than the actual Grizzlies' - even if you prefer Maggette to Mayo.

I might try Gay at the 4 and Randolph at the 5. But there are probably too many traditionalists here who'd sink you in the voting.

EDIT - Case in point:

Now you wont have to worry about it, no way a team with a core of Gay and Randolph playing at C nonetheless sniffs the playoffs.

Word to the wise - blockbusters are risky.

Brings up a question, better Grizzly duo to build around, Mayo and Gasol or Gay and Randolph?

Ill take the all around games of Mayo and Gasol over Gay and Randolph.

Add another shooter in Collison to put around Gasol and look out.

LOL

You keep selling that now. You know what greenteam has coming at him in the press conferences and conference runoffs

If you think he's catching unfair flack now.....wait.

Sorry GT I warned you about Randolph. The feedback will not be good.

Also, Randolph, Gay is surrounded by some pretty decent talent in Memphis right now with Mayo, Thabeet, Conley, Gasol, and others. GT will find it very difficult to fill out his team to match the talent that the current grizzlies have surrounding Randolph and Gay just so that they could get to 40 wins. He might but Maggette plays Gays spots and he's traded in his last two trades 4.25, 5.6, 6.25, 7.6 for 4.29, 6.4, 7.27. So it's going to be difficult.

They were the two most productive players sure, and if this was a fantasy league i would say this was a great deal.  But pts and rebounds are the only things that have to be taken into account, he is a dirt bag that doesnt play defense and doesnt protect the rim.

Marc Gasol isn't a guy you build a team around in my mind, and neither is OJ Mayo (he's a SG in a PG body)

Gasol I understand saying has an all around game, but Mayo over Gay?

I'm not a Rudy Gay fan, but Mayo is a rather one-dimensional player.

My vote: Gay over Mayo, Gasol over Randolph.

About to log off, but I'll be checking PMs later, if anyone is interested in trading for my picks or players. Particularly looking to acquire a 4th rounder.

I don't think Gasol is better than Randolph. Mainly because Gasol isn't exactly a defensive star, meanwhile Randolph is a much better offensive player for all of his warts.

Talent is not the only criterion for me: hustle/motor, physicality, ceiling, age, position, team chemistry, efficiency, etc.

On nearly all counts, I prefer Gasol to Randolph.

Potayto, potahto.
