The Knicks will sign Roger Mason Jr. to a one-year contract worth $1.4 million.

New York will sign Mason in lieu of Rudy Fernandez. Portland was seeking a future No. 1 pick for Fernandez.

Yes.  This is good.  People are assuming we are out of the hunt for Rudy but truly I think Danny just won't budge by offering too much and now is waiting out.  I think we probably have the best offer but the Blazers are, smartly, trying to get more.

Danny's patience has been beautiful this offseason and if we get Rudy I will bow before him.

I am beginning to think we are a little, Jiri Welsch-ed up with regard to Rudy. (over excited and overly hopeful)

Maybe he is a backup for a reason? strictly conjecture because myself, and i assume most of us, have not seen him play enough to warrant this unabashed love.

Watch him play overseas or in FIBA ball.  Yes, it's international ball but the guy can really play when given more of a role that suits his style.  With Rondo he would be spotting up for 3's and finishing and creating plays in the open court.  He would be a huge alley target for Rondo on the break and via back-cuts.  You saw those plays in Portland and they were slow as molasses and had half the PG that Rondo is.  He is a little white guy and doesn't look as explosive when he jumps but make no mistake he's one of the better dunkers in the NBA from the pass and even in general.  In the dunk contest he pulled off the same dunk that Igoudala did (the alley off the back of the backboard) and that is one of the toughest dunks I've ever seen.

Also keep in mind he would be a backup for us, it's not like he'd be starting.  He'd be a great backup at the 3 and 2.

I really hope we pick up Rudy.  He is a much beter player than Larry Hughes and that is the name that is getting tossed around.  Danny usually gets his man, and at the right price because of his patience.  Fans get frustrated by it (me included) but look at his track record.  Garnett said he wouldn't waive his no-trade, Shaq said he could get more money, and Rasheed didn't want to move him family/wanted more than an exception.  All of these cases Danny played the waiting game, and the right player come on his terms.

I just hope Rudy is the guy that Danny is targeting right now.

hmm, I wonder if Boston is still interested? the only glaring need on the roster is a legit 3/2 that can shoot. Rudy is no 3.

I think Rudy makes alot of sense as the back up to Ray for the next two, and then as our starting 2 in year 3.  Who knows, if he is more productive than Ray by next year, maybe Ray comes off the bench. It is a good short term and long term idea. I like him better than Delonte, because of his size and his head.

This is exactly what I think as well. We will need to keep Ray's minutes down next year, and I think we can do that with Rudy... I see Von Wafer in more of Mike Finley role for us this year, as in he can come in when we really need some shooting but won't be a staple off of our bench.

If we get Rudy then we still need to get someone to back up for Pierce (just as an insurance in case Quis is battling with injuries again).

So how about Rudy for a pick and Carney for vet min as 3rd string for SF?

I still don't get some people's infatuation with him. He is good, but I certainly don't think he is the heir apparent at SG in 3 years. He is a nice player, but he has his weaknesses. Is he a starting SG on a contender? Tough to say.

I wouldn't mind nabbing him for a future first + fillers. Then we make Marquis step up and defend at the 3. He is long and quick enough to score against SF's, but how well will he defend them for 18 minutes a game? I think he is capable, and hopefully this season he is interested (and healthy).

Getting a natural SF may ultimately be the better decision IMO. If Daniels - as backup SF - gets injured again or Pierce needs to miss some time, we are in deep trouble. Getting a SF would make Daniels insurance.

We are thin at one position, SF. Getting Rudy doesn't address that.

Did you really just compare Rudy to Jiri Welsch?? Do you watch the game of basketball...?

Rudy is a good solid ballplayer (especially on the offensive end, defense could use some work). If Danny could nab him we hands down take bragging rights for the best bench in the league. And Rudy would be able to play some minutes at the three and give us a legit 6th man off the bench.

why would we trade 4 this guy if he might book it after a season or not even want to play with us? he wasnt happy backing up brandon roy.. i dont think he'd be happy in boston unless he starts at the 2 spot over ray ray

Never wanted Rudy.  He's not that good.  He shot well his rookie season, but every time I've seen him play he's been terrible. I understand he is young and maybe will get better, but from what I've seen of him I don't understand how people think he is good.

I guess Rudy would be worth a shot.  He's a young shooter that hasn't proven much but why not?  Just think...if he did well the garden would be chanting "Rudy, Rudy Rudy!!"
