I am beginning to think we are a little, Jiri Welsch-ed up with regard to Rudy. (over excited and overly hopeful)

Maybe he is a backup for a reason? strictly conjecture because myself, and i assume most of us, have not seen him play enough to warrant this unabashed love.

I have to say I totally agree. I really don't understand all the infatuation with this guy. I think he is still unproven. He is a low risk, high reward, but giving away the future for this guy when he can't guard a chair is not the answer. If he can be had for cheap, then yea, but he really hasn't done a whole lot more than Von Wafer.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
hmm, I wonder if Boston is still interested? the only glaring need on the roster is a legit 3/2 that can shoot. Rudy is no 3.

True, but outside of our starters we've got nothing but trash at the wings. I think it's been made clear in the play-offs Doc isn't comfortable with Daniels as the first wing off the bench. His offense is lacking (he's a much worse shooter than Rondo), his defense has been overstated, and he's fragile. As for Wafer, he's not guaranteed to be any better than Daniels talent or durability wise. Fernandez' talent is more important important than the fit.

Did you really just compare Rudy to Jiri Welsch?? Do you watch the game of basketball...?

Rudy is a good solid ballplayer (especially on the offensive end, defense could use some work). If Danny could nab him we hands down take bragging rights for the best bench in the league. And Rudy would be able to play some minutes at the three and give us a legit 6th man off the bench.

oh I watch it alright! boy do i ever!

I'm less than excited about Rudy now too.  He'd be an upgrade over Wafer, so it'd be good.  But that's about it.

At this point, Danny could try to make a splash and package someone else with Sheed for a big time 2/3.

What is important in a backup wing is that he gains the confidence of Doc Rivers.  We saw how Tony Allen lost the coach's confidence last season, then regained it.  Marquis Daniels is obviously a player of some talent.  It may be that another year is what it takes for Doc to fit someone into his system.

If the Celtics did acquire Rudy Fernandez, I think it is possible that he won't immediately win the love of Doc Rivers.  He's a player who is reported to want to be a playmaker and doesn't try as hard as he could on defense.  He is considered an ill fit for Portland's system and, when Brandon Roy had a hamstring injury mid-season, Fernandez was still coming off the bench, as Bayliss and Blake got starts beside Andre Miller.  So, it is logical to worry that RF will sulk if he finds Doc Rivers being stingy with minutes because he has problems learning or executing defensive rotations.
