In my opinion they still need a back up wing that can defend 3's.  Right now the only such person on the roster that can do that is Marquis Daniels, and he is less than durable.

Very excited about the outlook, however one more back up wing and the roster should be complete.  Also do we think JO or Shaq start until Perk gets back?

Gotta be Jermaine starting, he at least has a chance at running the floor with Rondo.

JO will start but to tell you the truth I am more worried about our center securing defensive rebounds than running the floor. The other 4 guys can run the break. We need someone to rebound and outlet to start the break.

The bench will be very good on the court, and absolutely hysterical off the court. Shaq, Kryptonate and Big Baby on the same team is comedy gold.

Part of me hopes that Rasheed doesn't retire so we would have the funniest bench of all time.

Don't forget we also have Sheed (who could still come back or be traded for another piece) and Bradley (who is a potentially explosive player).

So much to be excited about at this point....which is impressive considering we are without our starting center for at least half the season.

Can't wait. ;D

Daniels is a wild card.  We can say "if he is healthy" but his career has been one injury after the other.  But our big rotation is solid - and Avery Bradley could become a really important player.  He has that much raw talent, and one and dones like him tend to profile well at the next level (compared to their piddling college stats).

The bench is indeed awesome.  I'm not thrilled with the Wafer/Daniels aspect of it, but hopefully Danny can upgrade by trading Rasheed, who I absolutely don't want to see back in green.
I'm actually excited about Bradley.  I see him as a huge wild card.  If he can contribute consistenly, his energy will be a huge plus, and we will be pretty nasty in the depth department.

Yeah Bradley is the hope that dare not speak its name. Potentially the kid could be pure dynamite.

lets hope this kid is going to turn out great...i mean he is surrounded by Ray Allen and Pierce, he can learn a lot...

Ray can teach him FT and form and stuff..i mean Ray Ray entered the league a bad FT too if i remember, high 60%...look where he is now, in the 90s%

Great thought and TP.  How many missed fastbreaks did we have last year not to mention the extra shot attempts we gave up because we weren't securing the defensive boards?

People have complained about shaq slowing the fast break, but wont his presence allow Rondo to not have to crash the defensive boards as often? This would allow him to run and get the transition game started. Also its not usually the center finishing fast breaks, its a wing. So is there any real proof to him slowing things down?

I am doubtful about the Daniels/Wafer combo as backups.

Daniels had trouble staying healthy and didn't impress me much when he was in last season.  Hopefully he turns it around in 2010 and it was just a health issue.

Wafer's scouting report says he has trouble playing defense.  Which means with Doc - he will have trouble finding the floor.

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/von-wafer-179/

It would be nice to get a quality wing backup. Daniels and Wafer sound like 3rd string options.  Not championship caliber backups.  How is Posey doing?  Would it be worth exploring a trade to bring him back or will we never find that flexible type of player again to be the Celtics' Super-Sub?

I'd love to see Rasheed's contract for Battier to solidify the defensive 3 spot, would have to throw in another player though since both are expiring.

Are we exaggerating our rebounding problems because of game 7?

And what percentage of rebounds do you think Shaq will get when on the floor?

I am not concerned about our center securing rebounds. I am concerned with the team securing rebounds. If our Center is immobile, it can mean that his man can freelance on the offensive boards. Sure, if the ball falls to Shaq, he will grab it.

I am also more concerned with their being a rebound to grab. If we are challenging every shot, the other team will shoot worse, but we might not be in position to board. We won't have to watch other teams getting offensive rebounds if our rotations are slow and the other team is hitting open shots.

while i would love to get Shane Battier, i highly doubt he's available for 3 reasons:

1) the Rockets get Yao back this year and he's already said that it might be his last. Rockets will likely not waste that on a rebuilding effort.
2) Morey has gone on record to say that he's excited about his team's chances and blah blah. He then named some players he said he's excited about in moving forward this year. Battier (among a few others) were one of the players named.
3) Battier is an expiring contract. Why would they trade a productive expiring contract for...an expiring contract?

It would be real nice to land Battier, but what chips do the Celtics have to acquire him besides Rasheed's contract?
