I am doubtful about the Daniels/Wafer combo as backups.

Daniels had trouble staying healthy and didn't impress me much when he was in last season.  Hopefully he turns it around in 2010 and it was just a health issue.

Wafer's scouting report says he has trouble playing defense.  Which means with Doc - he will have trouble finding the floor.

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/von-wafer-179/

It would be nice to get a quality wing backup. Daniels and Wafer sound like 3rd string options.  Not championship caliber backups.  How is Posey doing?  Would it be worth exploring a trade to bring him back or will we never find that flexible type of player again to be the Celtics' Super-Sub?

Posey in year 3 of his HOrrendous contract ... the Celtics have made it clear that if they are taking on salary beyond 2012, it'd better be for a darn good reason.

offensively, we have the best team in the league, and a lot of that come from the bench.
We have so many players that I wouldn't be surprised for 20 on any given night.
Paul, Ray, Rondo, KG, Jermaine, Shaq, Wafer, Nate.
We've got a lot of, I repeat a LOT of offense, and because of it I'm guessing we won't have anyone score more than 16 ppg this year.
Practice? Whatchu talkin about practice?

In my opinion they still need a back up wing that can defend 3's.  Right now the only such person on the roster that can do that is Marquis Daniels, and he is less than durable.

Very excited about the outlook, however one more back up wing and the roster should be complete.  Also do we think JO or Shaq start until Perk gets back?

Gotta be Jermaine starting, he at least has a chance at running the floor with Rondo.

JO will start but to tell you the truth I am more worried about our center securing defensive rebounds than running the floor. The other 4 guys can run the break. We need someone to rebound and outlet to start the break.
Are we exaggerating our rebounding problems because of game 7?

And what percentage of rebounds do you think Shaq will get when on the floor?

I am not concerned about our center securing rebounds. I am concerned with the team securing rebounds. If our Center is immobile, it can mean that his man can freelance on the offensive boards. Sure, if the ball falls to Shaq, he will grab it.

I am also more concerned with their being a rebound to grab. If we are challenging every shot, the other team will shoot worse, but we might not be in position to board. We won't have to watch other teams getting offensive rebounds if our rotations are slow and the other team is hitting open shots.

Are we exxagerating how immobile Shaq is?

Yes.

How much more mobile is Perkins?

Not much.

Edit: Did I really spell a word with a double x?

Yes.

I want those bigs to get those boards and give the rock to  Rondo and Bradly for the new Celtics fast break.

The bench is indeed awesome.  I'm not thrilled with the Wafer/Daniels aspect of it, but hopefully Danny can upgrade by trading Rasheed, who I absolutely don't want to see back in green.
I'm actually excited about Bradley.  I see him as a huge wild card.  If he can contribute consistenly, his energy will be a huge plus, and we will be pretty nasty in the depth department.

I think if Sheed comes back we may see the Sheed of old. Remember minutes would be cut and that means alot of rest between our bigs and that equals fresh legs. I like it.

he's the only one I can see doing it. There's just so many people who can score, I don't see any individual scoring numbers being too high.

  • You say when......
I'd say one GLARING missing component here is TA, and TA's defense..there wasn't any Celtic scoring that was a good enough replacement for what TA did on defense to WADE, LEBRON, and others...and guess what...they didn't just go away..in fact, now they are on the same team...oh, we got MD instead....come on, dumb loss..MD, in his best game, was 1/5th TA...and he got TA's 3rd year money...i mean, that was so dumb. After what TA did in the PLAYOFFS, otherwise known as the ONLY TIME THAT MATTERS, Danny should have just signed him for 3-for-3 mill, and that would have been it. Then at least we would have had Rondo and TA, as young, fast guys.....you-all better hope someone steps up to fill his shoes, and please don't complain about TA's offense, we saw everyone of our players drop the ball (offense) during this playoffs, but TA's D was outstanding, and we  did NOT replace him at all.....when we could have kept him easy..Danny wanted to gamble with it instead, disrespecting TA still...I don't blame TA at all. But i wish he stayed, we needed him bad for next season...! I hope shaq takes this season seriously, and shows up in shape...!

The defense we lose from TA is easily made up by the offense that Shaq, Jermaine, and Wafer will bring.

we haven't really seen Marquis to his full potential here in Boston, he did well in the first month of the season and then getting injured until Christmas, along with BBD, during those two month time, TA did a lot

Marquis might have similar D to TA (as i heard he is also good at lock down defense, and could defend Lebron well), but the way i see it, TA is more explosive in offense than Marquis..hence one of the reasons why TA eventually replaced Marquis in the playoffs...

Marquis should be fresh for the new season, I expect to see him perform well

I completely disagree with the offensive assessment, but agree with your overall point. TA is absolutely not more explosive in the offense. He has no mid-range game. He's just a high-energy, high-flyer guy so he "seems" explosive. Daniels is actually the better slasher and cutter, he's just far more controlled out there (as evidence by his EXTREMELY low career turnover rate) sometime it seems like he's move in slow motion. But he's very cool and calculated in his game.

But I agree with you on the rest, Daniels has been a pretty solid defender. I think he may struggle against Lebron, just due to the size disadvantage, but for the few minutes he'll have to guard him, he's a viable option.

Tony's defense will be missed, but from what Danny said, money wasn't the reason Tony moved on.  That seemed to be confirmed by Tony's comments that he was looking for a larger role and more of the spotlight.

I mean, if we'd wildly overpaid for TA, sure, he'd still be here.  However, is it worth giving a guy with TA's injury record a long-term deal for bigger money?

TA did a good job defensively for us last year. We need an athletic, excellent defensive wing to replace it. TA was a nice option to have when the opposing team's PG/SG/SF was getting hot and we needed a momentum-changing stopper.

EVERYONE will hate me for this but Id trade Perk for Battier if Sheed is coming back. Hou probably wants a center and they are deep at the wing now. Its probably a good deal for them and much better for them long term than for us. HOWEVER, for two years we have

JO, Shaq, Sheed, Erden
KG, Baby, Harangody
PP, Battier, Quis
Ray, Wafer, Bradley
Rajon, Nate
Imho, that team RUNS AWAY with two titles and then we rebuild

no, then we will have no centers in the future

Sheed KG Shaq are not getting any younger, once they retire we will be without a center
