While I have lost my mind, it's has nothing to do with embracing Shaq.
No one could possibly despise the Lakers more than me. The day Shaq turned his back on Orlando and joined the Lakers was a horrific day -- and I hated him for it.
I have held an intense and emotional disgust toward the Lakers for close to 45 years (since I began following the C's). I hated West, I hated Chamberlain, hated Kareem, Magic, Michael Cooper, AC Greene, Worthy, Byron Scott, Vlade, Rick Fox, Fisher, Ariza, Pau, Kobe and Shaq. But, that was because they were Lakers. Of the aforementioned (and please do not presume that by any ommissions of names that I didn't hate ALL of them), only a few ARE Lakers -- The rest WERE Lakers. Some of them are playing, and some, though retired, consider themselves lifelong Lakers. Others have nothing to do with the organization or have moved on in their playing and coaching careers. They WERE Lakers.
Since I tend to forgive most folks the transgressions of youth -- I cannot see holding former (reformed) Lakers forever responsible for the sins of their past. Once they no longer don Purple and Gold and have foresaken the Laker organization, they are fine with me. They can win for the Green and there is no taint whatsoever. Rather, there is the potential of pleasure -- great pleasure -- in seeing the rehabilitated former demon make waste of his prior comrades. If it comes to fruition, I'll be ecstatic and grateful for every Celtics player -- including Shaquille O'Neal.
