Wolves waive Delonte West

Minneapolis, MN (Sports Network) - The Minnesota Timberwolves have waived
guard Delonte West, who had just been acquired from Cleveland in a trade last
week.

West played the past 2 1/2 seasons with Cleveland and last year averaged 8.8
points with 3.3 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 60 games, including three starts.

The Wolves acquired West, along with Sebastian Telfair, in exchange for center
Ryan Hollins and guard Ramon Sessions on July 26.

The 27-year-old West has also played for Boston and Seattle in his six-year
career and has averaged 10.0 points with 3.7 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 364
games.

Let the West Watch begin!

In meteorological terms, is that "watch" ... or "warning"? ;) (Rhet.)

Gosh, I hope we don't sign this guy! :-\

Wafer would be my plan C behind Rudy and Delonte.

Assuming that his head's on straight (and that's a HUGE assumption), I would have taken West over Wafer.  West can shoot the ball, not quite as good as Von but he's more than respectable.  Solid defender.  Can play a little at the point in an emergency, or if Nate reverts to knucklehead status.

He's not worthy of being a starter, but in the role he might have had here, he'd be a good player.

Not sure there's room for him with the signing of Wafer, though.  We've got a few roster spots, but they need one open for a big man, and might need to keep a second one open if we end up trading 'Sheed's contract for two players (like, Shaq in a S&T where we also take Moon off Cleveland's hands).  Think they want to leave one open for Semih or one of the D-Leaguers to win in camp, and I can't see Gody not making the squad.

So, not sure there's room for West.  Limits some of the options going forward, at the least.

I would be surprised if we signed West.  Ainge signed Wafer knowing West was going to be released.

No thanks to the nutcase.

He's not nuts, he's bipolar. If he's established a medical balance and can lay off booz and weed -- and can demonstrate this to the Cs -- he would be a very nice if cheap signing.

I think Danny would give Delonte the benefit of the doubt. Celtics liked him when he was here, needed to give him up to get Ray. Von Wafer is not exactly a choir boy.  I say sign Delonte, and see which one of them can earn minutes.  Can always turn around and trade one of them later in the season.

Sorry, but he's nuts.

Don't forget that Delonte is basically the perfect backup for Rajon - he's really scrappy on the court, always hustles, knocks down open shots and isn't afraid to shoot the ball under pressure or when the game is on the line. The only reason he isn't a starter is because he's really a 2-guard but a little on the short side. Oh, and he's a bad man:

Celtics currently have 13 under contract, including Sheed, but not including Harangody (who hasn't yet officially signed).  Assuming Harangody does sign, that leaves one roster spot...
