Assuming that his head's on straight (and that's a HUGE assumption), I would have taken West over Wafer.  West can shoot the ball, not quite as good as Von but he's more than respectable.  Solid defender.  Can play a little at the point in an emergency, or if Nate reverts to knucklehead status.

He's not worthy of being a starter, but in the role he might have had here, he'd be a good player.

Not sure there's room for him with the signing of Wafer, though.  We've got a few roster spots, but they need one open for a big man, and might need to keep a second one open if we end up trading 'Sheed's contract for two players (like, Shaq in a S&T where we also take Moon off Cleveland's hands).  Think they want to leave one open for Semih or one of the D-Leaguers to win in camp, and I can't see Gody not making the squad.

So, not sure there's room for West.  Limits some of the options going forward, at the least.

Celtics currently have 13 under contract, including Sheed, but not including Harangody (who hasn't yet officially signed).  Assuming Harangody does sign, that leaves one roster spot...

yeah that may be true. but three of the contracts are for bare bones players making bare bones money. i dont necesarily buy into the whole "we have 13 guys" argument that everyone seems to really be supporting.

it's entirely possible that i am misinterpreting something here, but i always thought it was good to have lafayettes, gaffneys and erdens in camp and not necesarily on the 15 man.

Rondo, Allen, PP, KG, Perk
Nate,  Avery, Daniels, Wafer, BBD, Sheed, JO, Erden.  Presumably Harangody.  I haven't counted Gaffney and Lafayette.  Erden would be cheapest and most likely to be cut, but DA brought him over for a reason; apparently he sees something that no one else does.

Basically, the Cs have one spot left, plus the possibility of trading Sheed's contract.
Celtics fan for life.

I would be surprised if we signed West.  Ainge signed Wafer knowing West was going to be released.

No thanks to the nutcase.

He's not nuts, he's bipolar. If he's established a medical balance and can lay off booz and weed -- and can demonstrate this to the Cs -- he would be a very nice if cheap signing.

Bipolar, Tripolar, ADD, Autistic..whatever..Mental health industry's answer to rationalize and overmedicate behaviors.  West belongs behind bars.  He'd be a lot more likely to learn than getting medicated by quacks.

I'm with Bankshot....He's nuts.  Good combo guard...but nuts.

The way that I look at the roster is that there are only 11 assured of anything more than training camp

5 starters + Nate, Wafer, Daniels, Baby, ONeal, Bradley

Harangody, Erden, and Sheed either still have to make the team or will retire.  Erden would be cut to make room for Shaq for example in a heartbeat.

As far as old friend West though, I think we only get him if Bradley is used in a trade which I hope we don't do because I would like to see him.

For example Bradley and Sheed for Shaq and Moon, then sign West.  Not a bad result and there are plenty of other scenarios as well.

/Spilling Green Dye waves @ Delonte West too... as he keeps walking.

I hope the Celtics don't sign him

Assuming the Shaq signing happens, it'll depending on if it's just a straight signing at the min or a S&T that also brings back one of Shaq's Cleveland teammates.  There's room for one more wing-type.

Rondo / Nate
Ray / Wafer / Avery
Pierce / Quis
KG / Baby / 'Gody
JO / Perk / Shaq

That's thirteen spots that seem to me to be pretty much locked down.  I'm be shocked if 'Gody doesn't make the squad, not with how he looked in Summer League and how they've been saying lots of good things about him.  He's the new Scal, or the new Ryan Gomes, he'll get at least one season to prove he belongs in the NBA.

Figure they'll leave one roster spot open for Semih, Gafney, and Lafayette to fight over.  That's fourteen.

Figure 'Sheed will be gone one way or the other, either traded for Shaq or retired.  His roster spot, I could see them using on another wing.  Could be a guy like Moon, if Shaq is a S&T.  Could be a guy like West, although I'd think you'd probably want more of a true small forward behind Pierce (especially since Quis is always an injury concern).

I thought we should sign Delonte at this point just to keep him away from the Lakers.  If the Lakers end up with Barnes AND West to back up their wings...

Picking up Delonte cheap is a smart move. He's got game.
If he screws up you just cut him. All upside for the Celtics.

LOL.  Delonte is hardly good enough for us to worry about what team he plays for.  How did he do helping Cleveland beat us? ::)

i think he has to be plan B if rudy doesn't come here

than what was Wafer, plan C?

i think von will get some run at SG...this would allow bradley to play some PG...i think having von, daniels and west/rudy would be a nice group off the bench

Don't forget that Delonte is basically the perfect backup for Rajon
We have Nate.

I think Delonte would compliment Nate. They can take turns briging the ball up, both can shoot and DWest can defend the 2 while Nate the 1.

we still need a legit SF behind PP. I don't feel confident that Daniels can stay healthy all season

Point taken.  But do we want to see the Lakers with a shooting guard depth that goes like this:  Kobe / Barnes / West?

It beats the Celts' current wing depth, that's for sure.

I think Delonte would compliment Nate.
Would that be on his eyes, or on his legs?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Maybe on Delonte.  But now that it looks like Shaq is coming, does Danny have bigger plans at the 2/3 with Sheed's deal?
