Celtics still in market for a long-range shooter

The Celtics picked up Vonilla Wafer off the scrap heap and I almost thought they’d be done adding bench wings. Apparently, I was wrong. (Boston Globe)

   The Celtics will start the regular season without defensive-minded center Kendrick Perkins, who is recovering from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The club is seeking another long-range shooter as well as a big man to complete its roster.

Let's bring Delonte back. Since we don't have to trade for him I like him better than Rudy.

Also, DA usually likes to keep a roster spot open so he doesn't have to cut players to make room for a mid season acquisition.

I feel like this blog post was simply a week behind the news.  DA said last week he wanted another shooter and big man.  Then he signed Von Wafer.

Delonte for the vet minimum would be the best thing for this team. DWest can knock down 3 pointers and he tries hard on defense. What's not to like? He never had any problems when he played for us, they all started when he left.

Some of the leagues premier players have been "recruiting" guys to play with them. Paul Pierce needs to be texting Delonte, trying to get him to come back and try to win a ring.

I think Delonte is better than every Celtic that isn't a starter. The kid is a scrappy defender. He can guard the 2 very well and is above average at defending PG's. DWest is a great guy to come off the bench for Ray Allen. Ray can't play the same kinda minutes he has the last 3 years. We need a solid rotation player that can allow us to cut own his minutes. We don't lose 3 point threat when Delonte subs for  He can play point with Ray or Nate and he can play the 2 next to Rondo. Getting DWest gives us real depth in the backcourt:

Rondo/Nate
Allen/Delonte/Bradley
Pierce/Daniels/Wafer

Personal problems aside Delonte is a veteran, he has playoff experience and he is better than any other FA out there.

Roster construction wise, this shooter needs to come from the SF position.  I'd be okay with Rudy, or Jamario Moon.  Jarvis Hayes, maybe.

D-west is the best replacement we can get for TA. D-west can give us the similar defense that Tony offered + he has a neat offensive game as well.

Moon is not a shooter. He was also exposed as a glorified hustle player in Cleveland. From what's left on the market, the closest we will find to a shooting SF is Hayes, Finley, or Simmons.

Adding any sort of shooter without a trade will also mean Erden is our backup C for most of the season, unless we can do a 1 to 1 swap for Wallace, or someone like Dampier is suddenly available and agrees to join us for the minimum.

  Without checking on Wafer's outside shooting, I'm pretty sure the "Celts looking for a big man and an outside shooter" blurb showed up in the globe before they signed Wafer.

I think you are right on. No journalism to be seen here, just speculation.

And yeah, any more wing upgrades have to be an upgrade over Daniels, Wafer, and even Bradley.

Hayes and Simmons wouldn't be bad, but anyone who would take Finley over Moon should never be allowed to run a fantasy basketball team.  Finley is done.  D-U-N.

Corey Brewer.  Not a sharpshooter, but he's the defender we need and he shot 41% from 3 in 2009.  His shot is improving and he's young and long (6'9" I think).  I don't want Delonte West anywhere near this team.
