There's a surprising amount of discussion related to non-first rounders going on.  I can't remember a lot of pre-draft discussion in years past related to mid-rounders.

I think that without knowing which guys are on the board and where your team is, there isn't much point in it.

At this point in the draft, the picks are just "numbers"...if you're wheeling and dealing like a mad man you're as likely to end up screwing yourself beyond repair as you are setting up a winning franchise.

I disagree with this

I think if you do your homework there's a pretty good chance you can see who will fall where for the most part. I have talent tiers worked out and feel that at a certain level the talent drops off and if I can acquire more picks before that drop off the chances I get someone in the talent tier I want will be there. And if in certain tiers I don't want players then I trade out of them. Rounds are inconsequential.

This I agree with. However, what kinda loser has worked out talent tiers beyond the first 60 players? I mean what kind of sicko would do that?

(I've got about 70 done on my own. I'll hit the 4th round before the end of the 1st on Monday.)

The only question becomes, if you'd waited could that player potentially have slipped to you, without having to give up additional assets?

My thought is, if you're comfortable with the value you're giving / getting, then there's nothing wrong with pulling the trigger early.  However, I do think that teams get a better return for most of their picks when other GMs can see the value that is left on the board.

Also, tiers are pretty subjective.  For instance, Fafnir and I were talking about first round talent, and he would choose guys in the first that I wouldn't take until the third, etc.  With 30 GMs, it truly does become "one GM's trash is another GM's treasure".  Guys will slide, just like every year, and others will be picked way too soon.

True Roy, very true.

But what I saw and experienced in the Pick 2 and Historical Draft was a reluctance to move during the draft at times when those talent tiers starting coming coming towards an end and also runs on certain positions that could quickly deplete a tier of a certain position.

So if for instance you are set up to get your last starter in the 5th round but there is a wealth of that position in a tier that ends near the end of the 4th and almost none of that position in the next tier, a run on that position could leave you high and dry with quality at that last position if you are reactive instead of proactive.

Me, if I make a mistake and get burned, I would rather do it being proactive than being reactive and thinking later that I should have done something beforehand to have prevented it.

As you said, I can live with the value and what could have beens if I made the attempt to circumvent it.

I'll be lurking in the chat room today, if anyone wants to talk about a deal.

I too am interested in picks from all rounds, not just the 1st or 2nd. Particularly interested in trading 2 or 3 picks to move up a round or two.

PMs are also welcome, although I find chat much easier.

I'm still entertaining offers for my 1st pick, 4th overall. Send me PM's, work firewalls me from the chat.

Fafnir -- will you post times this today or this weekend for the draft?

i'm guessing there  are folks like me that need to take their break or lunch for their pick at work, so they need a little planning time.

thanks!

Go ahead keep making fun of the home of the guy who can veto every trade you try and make and also will be counting the ballots at the end.....
