Sam Smith: Taj Gibson for Rudy Fernandez offered (It's in Portland's hands)

There are rumors that the Bulls could trade Taj Gibson to the Trail Blazers for Rudy Fernandez.
"From what I've heard it's in Portland's hands now for what they want," writes Sam Smith for Bulls.com. "I've heard the Bulls have a pretty good shot, but nothing matters until it's done." Rudy would be a nice fit in Chicago's second unit, where he could get the larger role he has been pining for.

Hmm I was still hoping we would get Rudy (despite signing Von Wafer), but if this trade goes through then I guess we can try to get D-west? That is if the Lakers don't get him first.

That's better then anything we can offer outside of avery bradley + future first. and i'm not sure that would top it, or be worth it.

Chicago is so annoying in this offseason. How many wings do they need? Korver, Brewer, Deng is fine for depth.

Isn't their big man crew only Noah and Boozer? Maybe they are counting on Asik? Not smart, imo.

With the Wafer signing, I don't think Rudy is THAT important to us.

He is a nice player, but we are better off looking for a defensive-first wing instead of another scorer.

I assume if Danny has a love affair with him, we can throw 'Sheed's contract in and take back Przybilla, but is it worth it?

Or we could use Harangody maybe, plus Gaffney, a first-rounder, and cash?

I'd rather address bigger needs like a big and defensive wing (Shaq + Parker will do) than add more depth.

We won't be using 11-12 good players in the playoffs, so I rather get a great 8-9 man rotation.

Oooh, interesting move. Rudy Fernandez would be an excellent long term starter alongside Derrick Rose.

It would make the Bulls backup big men weak though. Not an improvement in the short term. They'll need to move one of their wings, likely Ronnie Brewer, later in the year to cover up that hole ... or wait until next offseason to fill it.

I think this would be an outstanding move for Chicago.  And don't forget: there are still a few bigs available that might come to the Bulls for cheap - Kwame Brown, Etan Thomas or even Shaq.

It would be nice if the Celtics could land something this offseason that not only helps this upcoming season, but post-Big 3.... Fernandez could've been a nice building block alongside Rondo. Von Wafer, IMO, is the 4th wing on the depth chart at best.

I know, it's not official that Rudy's going to Chicago - but just seems like they've had all the luck this offseason (aside from Miami, of course).

if Chicago's really dangling Gibson, then we have nothing to counter that - esp if they add in a 1st rounder. Gibson is a quality player, he had a strong rookie campaign last year. He would fit really well with Portland too - they could use more quality big men in that rotation since all their big guys seem to be cursed with the injury bug.

I would agree with that...  I think BBD is a better spot-up shooter, but Gibson is an athletic big who kinda reminds me of John Salley (an active guy who understands his way around the rim, rebounds well, and alters shots defensively).

Not me but, most C's fans would agree I'm sure.  He definitely has a longer wingspan.  Eventually one of these 'trade ideas' that include BBD will come to fruition.

TP.  I mentioned the same thing in a thread a while back.   I don't know if Sheed's contract and a number 1 be enough.   If you had Brewer, Daniels, and Wafer I would be happy with that having enough depth in case of injuries or if someone doesn't pan out.
