Why haven't we talked about Roger Mason at all?

As Houston being my second team to root for, this is what I can say from his 2008-2009 season. He played hard and was a great spark off the bench, but managed to find a way into the starting lineup after T-mac got injured. He averaged about 10 points in 20 minutes. He was very athletic and a very good shooter. Unfortunately, in game 2 of the semifinals series against the Lakers there was a dispute between him and Rick Adelman when he was taken out of the game, causing him to be sent to the locker room. Midway through this season he was about to join the rockets again but unfortunately, failed his physical due to a bad back.

I wouldn't be to worried about his attitude problems because after a year of humbling i'm sure he's better. And I bet you with KG's veteran leadership he can be tamed. And as expressed in his latest tweets on twitter he seems very grateful:

I'm so greatful god has thought me alot and I was payin attention I'm so so so happy rt now I'm so thankful y'all jus don't understand

I'm sure he has a bright future in Boston and he'll be a great weapon as seen in this video:

I'm OK with this signing, as long as he isn't the reason we don't get Rudy. But, I think at this point I rather get a defensive wing. I'm not sure who is left, but I'm sure someone is out there for the vet minimum. Or, something nice would be 'Sheed/Erden/Gaffney/second-rounder for Shaq and Parker/Moon.

Get me that package, and I can forget about Rudy.

Ray/Daniels/Wafer
Pierce/Parker
KG/BBD

all i can say wow. I hope he gets to the same form as he was with the rockets. Would be a significant addition to our bench.

I can see him giving Ray Allen all he can handle also. He has a blistering speed

That's a mix tape. I wouldn't get so excited.

He has since had a back injury that was so bad it caused him to fail a physical to get back into the league. He also had a pretty terrible stretch of basketball in Europe.

Lastly, I remember Wafer from his time in Houston. He was good but more like Flip Murray or Wille Green good than Ray Allen good.

He has/had attitude issues but the guy is still young and lets not forget this.

You barely see guys past 25 years of age being too immature. Some like Artest take longer but eventually you just mature

If Wafer can mature, be healthy and play the way he can, he is one electrifying basketball player. He has court to court speed like Derrick Rose but can really shoot the ball well also.

Given what was out there what did you expect us to get? You seem to down every move we make

I said early in this thread that I liked the signing and that at the minimum it was a good addition.

But let's be real here. Electrifying?? Blistering speed?? Giving Ray Allen all he can handle??

He's a decent pickup. He's as good as Willie Green or a taller version of Flip Murray. A 5th wing. He'll be the number 11 man in the rotation. We aren't talking Eric Gordon or Jamal Crawford or even Jason Terry here.

He's a nice pick up, that's all.

And for what it is worth I loved the Jermaine O'Neal pickup and thought the C's had a great draft.

Because I remember him from years ago. He has a very good first step but he has only slightly above average NBA peed after that.

Rondo has blistering speed. Aaron Brooks has blister speed. Chris Paul has blistering speed. Heck LeBron has blistering speed.

Wafer is kinda fast. That's all. Just try to keep it in perspective.

I think this is an okay depth signing (to fill the Finley role, for instance), but I don't like the idea of Marquis and Wafer being our two primary backup wings.

Facing reality, it's very likely that Marquis will miss extended playing time this season; he's just a very fragile player.  Who becomes our backup SF in that instance?  6'5" Von Wafer?  Ray Allen, playing 40 minutes per game?  Luke Harangody, who isn't all that athletic for a PF, let alone a SF?  None is a terribly appealing option.

I see Wafer more as roster filler; we still need to address the first wing off the bench, in my opinion.

Marquis and Wafer are both injury risks. Would love to be able to add Rudy to the mix. If Gaffney is not included in a deal for Rudy he could also add some much needed length at SF. I think the as a Scal replacement he brings good length and he can actually jump. Pair him with Nate or Bradley and Wafer and  you have a very good running unit that can also hit from deep.

lol. if he was 25 and Ray Allen-good, then of course he would be all too happy to sign for the vet minimum. nevermind that the real Ray Allen signed for $10m/yr.

[/quote]Which is why I said that. I wasn't the one who said he would give Ray a run for his money(I assuming that meant for his starting job). triboy was.

"NBA peed"--is that what Billy Walker has?   ;)

I like this signing, he is a very solid bench player, coming in with something to prove (or so it seems based on the tweets that were posted above), and he is coming in for the minimum (what is that going to be, $800,000 maybe?).  Rudy is a nice option too but we need to give up at least a 1st plus pay him twice as much (4 times as much if you consider the luxury tax).

The only thing preventing him from being a starting level player has been his attitude issues.  Maybe he is over those and maybe not but that would all be gravy.  We needed a guy who can come off the bench and hit shots and that is what we got.

Now if his back is still screwed up, that would be a problem and this would turn out to be wasted roster spot but I am assuming that has been checked out.
