If he can be healthy and return to the form he was at in Houston in 2008-09, this is a steal.

If he gets back to that form this is definitely a steal.  I really wanted the C's to get him when I heard he was coming back last year. I really really really hope that we still are going after Delonte or Rudy though!   I really wanted both of though so lets get all three lol!

lol....before this Von signing happened, I too was on board for getting both West and Rudy, and I guess I would still love for us to go after them. I mean yeah we will end up with ton of guards, but hey at least we won't go into those scoring droughts that were a pain last season.

Von doesn't have to have such a big role.

EXCELLENT PICK UP DANNY!!!! ;D I'm loving this... Von Wafer is our Jamal Crawford... Now who's our Center going to be? hmmmm....

I sure as hell hope he'll be as good as Crawford was last season for the Hawks, but idk if that is realistic.  If he can get back to his 08-09 form this signing will definitely be a steal!

Like the signing assuming we are still trying to add a contributing wing. I also want to see what we do with Sheed.

The guy can really hit the 3, even against NBA competition, and he is on a league subsidized minimum contract. He looks like a good 11th or 12 guy on our nightly active roster.

That is a major insult to Crawford. I hated Crawford in NY, but he has always been a legitimate NBA scorer. Wafer is not in his league. I like the pickup, but guard your expectations.

I remember Wafer and JR Giddens as McDonald's All-Americans.  Athletic slashers with range and attitude.  I thought they were going to be stars.  Neither of them ever learned how to dribble or control themselves but at least Von can still shoot.  Both of them could have been JR Smith (an example of a successful headcase) if they focused more on skill development than alpha dogging.

Still a good value signing. Too risky to depend on him and Daniels as the only back-up wings, though.  Targeting Rudy + Przy (or Shaq and one of the Cav wings) with Sheed + picks or Baby should still be a priority.

Eh...so much for Rudy Fernandez.

Von Wafer will probably give us what Finley did only with a bit more athleticism.

Nice low risk signing for a guy who will probably be deep on the bench, and will be used to hit some key clutch 3s.

Good pickup...will be even a better pickup if he's the 5th or 6th wing.

While I like Wafer, Marquis, Nate, and Baby on the bench, I still feel like Doc doesn't have enough there to give Paul and Ray the help they need.

The one plus is that if Shaq comes and agrees to come off the bench, he could basically be our offense and make guys like Wafer and Nate very effective on the outside.

I can't believe we were able to get this guy. I really expected him to get a pay raise around 4-5 mil after the 08-09 season. But I guess teams were still LeBron psyched for this past summer that they didn't want to commit salary.

IMO, we're set for every position except in the paint. Could we all agree that a Sheed for Shaq(2 year, 5mil per) make sense? I really don't see any other players available for Sheed's contract

Rondo - Nate - Bradley
Ray - Wafer
Pierce - Marquis
KG - BBD - Luke
Shaq - JO - Perk - SemihE

If that is our roster heading into next season, then I'll be super psyched and ready for the finals.
Can't stop, Rondo!

Does any of this really matter? Once Doc decides a player isn't worthy of playing time... the player is pretty much stuck on the bench for the duration of the season.  Hope Von Wafer has a strong start.  Otherwise, he's on the bench..forever!

The real question is who will be in the dog house?

Who could Wafer possibly beat out to get playing time?
1.  Nate - yes
2.  Marquis yes
3.  Bradley probably against taller guards
4.  Harangody- no, but they will play different positions
5.  Lafayette - yes
6.  Gaffney - different postions?

You know going through this list the bench doesn't look that great. What I don't like is that none of them are really good shooters or even stellar defensive players with the exception of Bradley.

Modified... Harangody may turn out to be a good shooter.

Danny probably should be looking for players Doc favors... don't know what that is.  But, there must be something a player does or doesn't do that puts him in the dog house.
Danny's next move has to be for a big man.  Probably going to use Sheed's contract to get someone like Shaq or Brown. (not them though)

This isn't exactly fair as TA was in and out of Doc's doghouse and Nate played himself into it during the regular season and then found himself a key contributor in the Conference Finals.

I think what happens more often than not is that we fans envision something that looks good on paper that we probably wouldn't think is a good idea if we saw what goes on in practice, etc.

Jon,
Good points about Tony and Nate working their way into and out of the rotation.  I was being too general in my statements.

However, some players do get stuck.  Scalabrine, Walker, Giddens, Laffayete, Gaffney, Williams and Marguis (okay he was injured)

Jon, sorry I didn't quote you.  Don't know how to put previous post info in a box.  Could someone explain to me how it's done.  Thanks

All you do is click on the "quote" box on the top right hand corner of the person's post you want to quote.  The program does everything for you.

Listen, I don't think Doc is perfect, so feel free to criticize away.  However, he has a tough job to do with all the talent on this team.  In some ways, juggling a lot of very good players is tougher than managing a team with just one superstar (like the Cavs last year).  In a tough playoff game, Rondo, Ray, Paul, and KG are all going to play 35-40 mpg, leaving very few minutes for anyone else.

I really think that is what a lot of it has to do with.  I mean how do you get more than 3-4 bench players consistent minutes?
