When the Celtics won #17, I watched it with my son.  HE was loving every second of it, but for me I was happier for him.  I remember vividly the three championships of the 1980's - that's when it mattered most to me.

Personally, I'm not a 'rah-rah' kind of guy...kinda like a white version of Robert Parish :)  I don't get overly excited about sports anymore, nor do I sit and sulk over a loss.  I'm 38, and I guess things just change the older I get.

And regarding mr. october's question...  probably more than half my posts are just antagonistic attempts at humor and some others were in the off-topic section.

In regards to the sport of basketball, I'll take it over the NCAA any day of the week.  (Although, I do enjoy March Madness)

When the Celtics lost game 7 this year, I just changed the channel and moved on and felt nothing at all...

Then what's the point? Would you not celebrate Banner 18? I find it hard to believe that people can just say "Whatever" when we lose and jump with joy when we win. I know I can't. Losing hurts and winning makes me happy. That's the beauty of sports.

You seem to hint that my lack of emotion makes me a bad person?  Sorry, not even close.  I get passionate when my kids succeed or fail, not over some overpaid basketball team that couldn't rebound or make a shot, knowing they had two shots to win one game.

There's a point to it for me, it's just not the same point as yours...

I'm not saying you're lying, I just said I find it hard to believe. As in, it's hard for me to understand. And nowhere did I say you were a bad person.

The NBA is hugely important to me. Like other things that make life worth living, like music, art, film, writing, baseball, pickup games, booze, travel, girls, family etc. - basketball is a kind of life force to me, and despite not being 16 anymore, when it mattered like life and death, it still occupies a ton of my energy and focus. It's much more than just a game played by millionaires to me. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Yeah.. the NBA is definitely peaking my interest! In the past, I wouldn't say it was of any importance but am finding myself becoming more fascinated...

I wasn't happy after Game 7, but after a few minutes I kind of did just say "whatever" and move on too.  I think sports are entertainment and try to keep them in perspective, so when things are good I'm happy to let it make me giddy and excited, but when things go wrong I do my best to not let it affect my life in general.  Emotional responses don't have to be symmetrical, so why not embrace the good times and push away the bad if you can?

I would never knock someone for taking losses hard, but for me I just don't want to let something that's basically meaningless and out of my control make me miserable.  I don't think that makes me any less (or any more) of a fan than someone who takes the team failing to heart.  Just different strokes.

That said, the NBA is a big part of my recreational life, and I can't wait for the new season to start.
