I don't know if I live and breathe the NBA but it's pretty close. I love watching the best basketball players in the world show their stuff night in and night out. They make it look so easy but we all know how hard it really is. I bleed green and will till I die.

Only one con and it's a con the majority of NBA fans have. The officiating, it stands out like a sore thumb unlike any other.

I'm not sure if it's a good thing, but it's kind of like an alternate reality.  I wake up and don't watch any real news but spend my first hour checking the various basketball rumors out.
I'll have a comment or two on important stuff like the oil spill or a stock market crash, but don't get me started on stupid stuff like Jermaine Oneal, Shaq, or Rudy Fernandez.  Maybe it's just comforting conversation.

No NBA, no Celtics, (and my blood is green) ... that pretty much says it all.

Same here. Even if I wanted to watch other games, the time difference only allows me to watch C's basketball.

I live in the DC area and have had season tickets for the Bullets/Wiz for over 20 years. It's all about having better seats to watch the Cs when they are in town.  That said, the athletes in the NBA are amazing to watch in person, close up.  The combination of seeing players from other teams in person, as well as following other teams/players in my fantasy league put the NBA pretty high on the food chain for me.  Although, the Bosox still remain number one.

The NBA isn't really important to me at all.  But I Live and Die with the Celtics!!!!  I actually hate the NBA and the way the league is run and everything that goes with it.  But I am a life long Celtics fanatic and will be forever.  I watch every game the C's play, even if I DVR'd and already know the score.  I follow the team as much as possible...but if the C's were to cease to exist for some reason, I would never watch the NBA again.  The 5 pro teams I follow I follow religously but the NBA is the only league I don't care about when my team (the C's) aren't involved.

agreed

the NBA for me is not that important but however the celtics are what i think keep me sane. Let me explain...

*more than a month later and i'm still an absolute wreck. Not sure i'll ever get over game 7

*Anyone else cry on June 17th, 2008? Cuz i did.

*One of my main objectives in the morning is to check celticsblog for any potential rumors or news

*Mr room is decked out in celtics memoriabilia including stubs of every game i've went to since 2002, a framed photo of the TD Garden after banner 17, a pierce poster, garnett poster, ray poster, and an autographed al jefferson poster (Gotta take that one down soon, lol )

*I DVR ESPN classic to watch old celtics games from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I'm only 17 but if i had a time machine i'd go back in time just to be able to step foot in the old garden

*The Garden and the basketball hall of fame are like Mecca for me

*Meeting Tommy Heinsohn was a surreal experience for me as was bumping into john havilichek and Sam Jones at the celtics parade in 2008.

It's funny because i'm really not a big fan of the NBA. I hate the superstar personas, David Stern, the referee scandals, and the whole draft lottery thing but the celtics are an absolute necessity in my life.

I think i enjoy following the MLB and the NFL more but i hate the red sox and despise the patriots so i guess it's a little weird how i became such a die hard celtics fan. lol

  • You know my methods, Watson.
I'm a Celtics fan of the '80's.  If the NBA shutdown tomorrow I probably could care less.  I still like the Celtics because I can't break away, but I'm not as passionate as I was 20 years ago.  The death of Reggie Lewis, McHale's retirment and the fact the game turned into a pile of crap in the mid-90's probably did it for me.

Then Antoine Walker became the face of this franchise and I LOATHED his game. And then it was Pierce, and he was (still is somewhat) hard to embrace.

Our oldest son is now 10 and he likes the NBA which keeps me connected to some degree.  When the Celtics lost game 7 this year, I just changed the channel and moved on and felt nothing at all...

The game is different - more of a motion-offense, lack of post play, and the amount of egotism / money involved has caused my interest to dwindle.  Also, the death of the college "stars" (due to leaving early) has had a negative effect on the NBA game - it's hard to know the college players, and many of them come to the NBA unprepared.  It has a trickle-down effect, and it's caused me to not care.

Simply put, I could take it or leave it.  When the NBA shuts down (and they will) I won't lose any sleep...

You can take it or leave it? And yet you have over 3500 posts on a blog devoted to the Celtics - including posts in the middle of the off season?

Celtics basketball (watching it, reading about it, discussing it) is one of my absolute favorite past times. Why else would I be posting on here at the end of July?

I can echo AJ's sentiments pretty well (maybe toned down a bit).  I was going nuts during Game 7 this year, but once it was over it was not the death of me.  I too grew up with 80's teams.  I was a little more amused by Toine than AJ, and didn't really like Pierce that much until 4 or 5 years ago.  I'd miss Celtics a lot more than the NBA (I understand they go hand in hand).

Then what's the point? Would you not celebrate Banner 18? I find it hard to believe that people can just say "Whatever" when we lose and jump with joy when we win. I know I can't. Losing hurts and winning makes me happy. That's the beauty of sports.
