In the process of surrounding their core with a solid second unit, the Celtics had discussions about bringing Eddie House back to Boston. House, whose shooting streaks helped the Celtics win the title in 2008, was shipped to New York at the trade deadline last February in a deal for Nate Robinson.

“It’s something [Celtics president] Danny [Ainge] and I have discussed,” House's agent Mark Bartelstein said. “But nothing’s imminent.”

Should he find himself back in Green, however, he’d have to do it for less money. Pinched by the salary cap, the Celtics would only be able to offer House the veteran minimum. House made $2.5 million last season, but if he played for the minimum next season, he would be entitled to $1.35 million as a 10-year veteran.

House's name was one of the many thrown out for consideration as the Miami Heat attempted to assemble some pieces around Chris Bosh, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, but otherwise interest 32-year old shooter was been tepid this offseason.

House’s shooting struggles last season (38 percent from the floor, 34.8 percent from 3) led the Celtics to look for other options during the season. He never found a shooting groove in New York (33.1 percent from the floor, 25 percent from 3).

Despite House’s shooting, Celtics coach Doc Rivers was vocally upset about losing a player that had been a catalyst on the second unit for more than two seasons.

Looking at the team’s needs, Ainge said his priorities were another big man, a backup for Rajon Rondo and backups for Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. The Celtics re-signed Robinson and also brought back Marquis Daniels last week.

Interesting quote from that article:

It seems as though Ainge has a good relationship with Mark Bartelstein who not only represents House, but also Nate and Daniels. He also represents Udoka, B. Miller, Kwame, A. Morrison all who we have each taken a look at.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
when he's hot there are few better.  too bad he's not taller, but with nate on board, eddie could play a little two-guard.

avery bradley will make no contribution to this team during the upcoming season.  i'd prefer to have house back and let avery get some time in the d-league, as he has much to work on.  playing on a contender doesn't lend itself to on-the-job training.

If the C's want to bring back Eddie AND still get another wing, I guess that's OK.  But I don't think he does anything to really help us.  Marquis is already a little undersize at the 3.  We really need a normal-sized 2, if not a 3 at this ponit.  Not another dwarf to play next to Nate.

And I don't necessarily agree that Bradley can't help.  He's already a good defender, which is a step above most young players.  And if you put him on the floor with a couple starters and a point guard (whether it's Nate or Rondo), I don't see why he can't score some points.

I like Eddie as a person and think he would be a good cheerleader on the bench but if he is playing this year then that means that Nate isn't performing well.  The guy shot terribly last year and didn't get better when he went and played on a team that didn't ask him to play defense.  I don't think I can handle the hot and cold because I am already going to be dealing with that from Ray Allen.

I think that Eddie would be a last resort for Danny just because he was willing to trade him last year. I believe others are higher on his list... more consistent shooters with a better shooting %.

Don't get me wrong I like Eddie and was a fan of him but he just wasn't the same shooter and really struggled last season and that might say to Danny that Eddie has seen his best days and won't be consistent anymore. I mean toward the end of the season even NYK's played Giddens and Walker before House.

With that being said I hope that Eddie lands on some team.

Our biggest needs are another big and after that maybe a big three.  I love Eddie House for his past contributions to the Boston Celtics, but we simply don't need another combo guard.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Why not?  Bring him along for the ride, so long as we still get a backup 3 and another big.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
The 32 year old Jump shooters curse has struck House he's done.

I'd rather not bring him back.

Eddie only thrives when the offense is running on all cylinders.  Last year during the reg season we had so many injuries and some would say lack of interest.  So Eddie was forced to create his shot because the spacing was always off.

I have a real problem believing that someone can all of a sudden lose his shot.

I like rooting for Eddie.  I like having him out there when we need a 3 at the end of the game.  I like that he brings a family attitude to the team.

Getting Eddie doesn't mean we won't get another big and a wing.  it just means Avery won't see the light of day but when has Doc ever played a rookie anyway.

I'd rather bring back Michael Finley.

I think he would be decent insurance for the vet min if either Rondo or Nate get injured.  I'm not ready yet to rely on Bradley on that third pg role for insurance.  After all Bradley is a 19 year old rookie and the last "defensive rookie" we drafted in the first round JR Giddens didn't work out so well.

Also if we decide to trade Nate for a bigger need midseason it's nice to know Eddie would be right there to step in Nate's place.

The only question is, how willing is Eddie to be the 3rd point guard on a team where the 2nd point guard doesn't get that many minutes?

I'm not sure it'll sit well.  Ultimately I think that's why he won't come back to begin with.

Good point however the 2nd point guard on all the contenders even Miami now is about taken up.   If he wants to be on a winner he might have to settle for being the third pg.
