The Grizzlies still haven't signed first-round pick Xavier Henry to a rookie deal.
Henry sat out all of this month's Las Vegas Summer League.
Memphis has refused to offer Henry the maximum amount allowed, which equates to a 2010-11 salary of $2 million, without Henry agreeing to tie $300,000 of that to performance bonuses.
So, my arch-rival Chris Wallace is at it again. Here's a timeline for those who haven't been paying close attention to the most confounding team in the league.
First, Wallace signed their never-was-never-will-be an All Star small forward, restricted F.A. Rudy Gay to the sixth largest deal of the offseason - a five-year $82 million dollar contract - on the
first day of free agency.
Second, Wallace declined to make a $3.7 million qualifying offer to restricted free-agent Ronnie Brewer - having just given up the team's 2011 first-round (likely lottery) pick to acquire him at the deadline.
Possibly because, third, Chris had decided he'd rather give that and more to our guy, Tony Allen. following T.A.'s first healthy campaign in three years.
Fourth, Watch as Brewer days later signs with the Bulls for nearly the same amount - $12.5 million over three years versus $10 million over three years.
And his final - and my personal favorite - flourish - inexplicably getting into a contract dispute with 12th pick, Xavier Henry by refusing to pay him the 120% of rookie scale that every other lottery pick has received - and that most likely all 27 of the other first round picks not drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies will receive... A sum that amounts to less than Rudy Gay will make in fifteen games.
My resume is in the mail.
