Whose a better point guard: Rondo or Rose?

Hey guys, so I was having a discussion with my family yesterday about a potential Chris Paul vs. Rondo deal.

So heres was the conclusion to the discussion: Although we all agreed that we would all rather have Chris Paul over Rondo (even with CP3's new whiney attitude and Rondos Loyalty) if we could tie up CP3 for an extended contract.

However the following discussion then came up. Is Rondo a better pure player than Derrick Rose? I.e. who would you rather have on your team between the both of them? It appears as though they both came into their own, in terms of stardom during last years playoffs. So who would you rather have on your team? Rondo may be quicker, but Rose has a sweet jump shot?

So who would you rather build your team around... Rajon Rondo, or Derrick Rose?

Right now, I like Rondo better. 


But they are close.  It would not surprise me if Rose ended up better then Rondo.

As its a dead Sunday, I was hoping this could be "the debate" for Sunday with Rondo competing for a shot right now at the international stage and all... So what does it take to make this to show up on the front page? At least under the "Forums topic list"

As for the front page, you would have to make a "Fan Post" and then, it is written well enough, someone might place it on the front page (I don't do that.  I leave that to the writers and editors)

I'm in the same boat.  I like Rondo better overall right now.  I think Rose will always be a better scorer, but Rondo will be a better floor general.

Rose isn't a true PG, he is much more in the mold of Iverson then Rondo.  That said if my best player is going to be Rose or Rondo, I'd rather have Rose, if I have a premier player at a different position, I think I'd rather have Rondo.

I guess if you only have one premier player, then you don't have a shot at a championship anyway- so I think the vast majority would probably say Rondo, if you are talking about a top notch team.

Its hard to judge between the two so far because Rondo has had the benefit of better coaching,players around him so far.Rose will have better players&coaching around him this up coming season to give us a better gage to which pg is better.(imo)

Look at the Bulls this year, Rose will be their best player (though Boozer is close), but they certainly have enough pieces to win the title.  I think in that situation I'd rather have Rose.

And let's not forget defense.  That's literally half the game.  I think too often when we have these debates, defense gets overlooked.  Offensively a debate can be made given Rose's superior scoring ability.  However, defensively, Rondo is dramatically better, making this really not much of a debate.

  That works both ways though. We've never seen Rondo without the big three. His numbers would be better if they weren't all here and he was expected to be more of a scorer and had the ball in his hands more like the other top point guards. Even next year Rondo will be surrounded by players that are better and more versatile on offense than Rose.

For our Celtics team Rondo is the better fit playing with other scorers.   If your point guard had to carry the team offensively and be the number 1 or 2 option then I would go with Rose.  

It will be interesting to see who starts between them or the first off the bench between them for team USA.  Coach K is giving Rondo high praise and look at this quote from Kevin Durant.

I would love to see Durant, Gay, and Rondo be the future of this team someday.

Rondo is one of the few players, regardless of position, that has demonstrated the ability to take over games.

Rose outplayed him last night, but last season Rondo was the better player.

The ft shooting problem is significant for both players - Rose doesn't get to the line much, and Rondo can't make an undefended 14 foot shot.
