Sign and Trade idea for both Shaq and J. Howard

J. Howard (signed and traded at a starting contract of 6.2M next yr.)

Cleveland receives:

Sheed's Deal

Washington receives:

West
Gaffney
Lafayette

We would have to include at least one draft choice to both teams and some money (West has a guaranteed 500K) in order to make it worth both the Wiz and Cavs time.

We can also offer each player an 8% raise per year. This might not have much impact on Shaq's 2 yr deal (taking it to about 3.8M next year), but it does give Howard some extra incentive since he will likely want to sign a deal longer than 2 yrs.

2010-11 = 3.5M
2011-12 = 3.8M

2 yrs. 7.3M deal

Howard

2010-11 = 6.2M
2011-12 = 6.7M
2012-13 = 7.2M (player option)
2013-14 = 7.8M (team option)

4 yrs 27.9M

This would take Howard to 33 if, as expected, we decline the team option the final year. It also gives him the ability to opt out after the 2012 season, which is the same time most of our other players contracts expire (KG, Allen, Robinson, JO, etc.)

Is that deal and the chance to play on a major contender enough to lure Howard?

However, more importantly his contract is nearly fully non-guaranteed if he is waived prior to August 5. The Cavs would only have to account for 500k of his 4.6M contract if he's waived before then (the full amount thereafter).

I expect the Cavs are exploring all angles in order to trade his deal, much like the C's are doing with Sheed, but rest assured that West will get dealt or waived and NOT be on the Cavs roster next season. Unless he re-signs for the vet. minimum after he's waived.

I could go for this. Getting Shaq and Josh Howard would be awesome. That said, I would still prefer the CP3 and Okafor deal for Sheed, Perk, Rondo and filler.

Washington will be all over this.  West would be the perfect guy to go along with Arenas.  Maybe they can have a shootout in the parking lot after a game. LOL  

 All kidding aside I do not think that trade would happen.  That being said i like the way you are thinking, I myself was trying to think of how the Celtics could get Howard with this Shaq thing.

Guys, West, Sheed, Gaffney, and LaFayette would all be waived. Washington could potentially lose Howard for nothing so why not get a 2nd rd pick and the the 500K it would take to pay for the guaranteed portion of West's contract in return? Same goes for Cleveland and Shaq.

The only way that trade works is if KG is that filler BTW. CP3 to Boston doesn't work because of Rondo's BYC status. Period.

I agree, this is the kind of deal to finalize the roster. If adding Washington makes things too complicated (I don't think you can do two S & T's in one deal); we can take Parker or Moon instead of Howard, but I would prefer Howard over both of them if possible.

In essence, we take Moon's contract and get Sheed for a 2nd rounder .... AND a bigger impediment in front of King James
