Since the team is only one or two relevant moves away from being ready for the season, I was thinking it would be interesting for people to post what they hope the roster to be on opening night. Here's mine. I think if we get Shaq, he starts opening night. Just because of how big of a scene it would be.

Rondo/ Nate / Bradley
Ray / Anthony Parker/Bradley
Pierce / Marquis / Parker
Garnett/ JO / Powe/ Harangody
Shaq / (Perkins) / JO

When Perk is healthy we have KG & Perk, and then Jermaine and Shaq, with Powe as a 5th big. Jermaine gets to play his more natural position of power forward more often and we would be fantastic on the boards and  defensively down low. Nate and Bradley back up Rondo and Anthony Parker and Marquis backup the wings. Parker is a better offensive player, both could potentially be defensive stoppers. Marquis' ability to play the point, makes it so we can create some interesting lineups. If Daniels continues to struggle, Parker sees more minutes.

Shaq, Powe and Parker for Sheed and Baby works if Shaq signs for around 6 mill. Parker is in the last year of his deal and has no long term value for Cleveland. By giving them Baby, they allow us to get Shaq and we get Parker. Baby has been better than Powe, but at one point Doc certainly favored Powe and he'd love to return to Boston. He wouldn't demand the minutes Baby will want, so he would be a better 5th big man than Big Baby I think. We need to give Cleveland a reason to do the deal, so they get a good young big, clear some cap space, don't lose anything they value, and we can throw in picks to get it done if needed)

I've thought all along that we were the team that makes the most sense for Shaq. Obviously, KG, JO, Ray, and Paul know him really well. He'd fit in great with the chemistry of the team, because Shaq respects our guys and how we run things. He would be himself, but he wouldn't rock the boat. He wants to beat the Lakers as badly as anyone else in the NBA and the main reason we lost was because of size and getting killed on the glass. The only way to get Shaq here for more than the minimum is through and sign and trade and they have two wings (Parker and Moon, I prefer Parker) who are pretty much what we're looking for to fill out our roster. They also happen to be rebuilding and neither Parker nor Moon are in their long term plans. It just makes too much sense. Get it done, Danny. (If Shaq is willing to sign for like 3 million, Delonte could be added into the deal also. He is no longer in Cleveland's plans, and could add value as another shooter, and backup PG with size. but I figured everyone on this board's heads would explode if I put him in the deal, haha)

What are everyone else's lineups for opening night?

I don't understand why anyone would think that Shaq would add anything to our team at this point, especially once Perk comes back. He might be our third string center at that point. You can't play Shaq with Perk or with Jermaine O'Neil at the same time; we will get destroyed on D.

The roster I want is: Rondo,Pierce,Allen,Garnett. And Shaq.  With J. O'neal,BigBaby,Gerald Green(need a athletic shooter/scorer at SF) Daniels and Nate Rob as the 2nd unit. And the two rookies rounding the roster out in Harangody and Bradley.

The bad news about getting Gerald Green is that it will be tough to work out a trade with Koksokhim-Stal of the Ukrainian second division.

The good news is that it will only take them a few weeks to figure out he won't be a contributor at that level either.

Shaq would not start over JO. Then when Perk comes back, he would be the 5th big? That would cause major issues with Shaq. His ego could not stand a reduced role in the regular season or play-offs.

The only way I would make this trade is if the doctors don't think Perk can play effectively this year.  If that is the case, then yeah, I would do the deal.

My ideal opening day roster

PG-CP3/Nate/Bradley
SG-Ray/Wafer
SF-Pierce/Quis/J.Hayes
PF-KG/BBD/Luke
 C-JO/Okafor/Perk

Obviously that would mean that we trade Perk, Rondo and Sheed, plus future picks to NO for CP3 and Okafor. This is really the best deal NO can get for CP3 and Okafor, who they insist must be included in any deal for CP3.

This is a roster than will beat LA. No doubt about it.

Here is my predicted (and preferred) opening day roster.  I don't think the Celtics will sign Shaq because he's too old, slow and expensive. This roster is more realistic.  We still need to fill two key spots - a center for the vet min and a strong wing to back-up Pierce, to be obtained through the trade of Sheed.  I've provided a complete roster (all 14 or 15), which is balanced and strong, but perhaps we still need another shooter instead of M. Janning (see below):

C:  J. O'Neal/[Vet min - J. Boone?]/Perk/S. Erden

PF: KG/Baby/L. Harangody

SF: PP/[last key rotation player obtained thru trade of Sheed - S. Battier]

SG: Ray A./Marquis/[Matt Janning or leave open]

PG: Rondo/Nate/Bradley

Do you really think Perk is going to suddenly be the same player as before after being out for 8 months?! Come on. You can never have enough legit big men to compete with the llama Gasol and that punk Dwight Howard.  Anyone who says "oh we don't need Shaq, we have Perk" isn't really thinking it through.

PG- Rondo
SG- Ray
SF- Pierce
PF- KG
C- J. O'Neal

6. Nate Robinson
7. Shane Battier
8. Marquis Daniels
9. Glen Davis
10. Luke Harangody
11. Jarvis Hayes
12. Semih Erden
INACTIVE
13. Kendrick Perkins (injury)
14. Oliver Lafayette
15. Tony Gaffney

Whenever Perk comes back Erden would be moved to the inactive list. For cost reasons it also might make sense to go after Janning and/or Matt Carroll instead of Hayes but Hayes is proven and can shoot.

Shaq should not be an option. He's old, fat and won't accept being down in the rotation once Perk comes back. He'd be a headache and he would just be a wall near the basket that would stop penetration. Shaq would be a mistake. If the C's go after anyone based on past performance then I'd go after TMac or Iverson instead... both would be a mistake too but hey so would Shaq.

I don't think that Howard would be available to us until half way point in the season (December)

T-Mac and Iverson's best skill when they were good was their athletecism. Shaq's biggest skill has always been his size. T-MAC and AI are older and slower but Shaq is still huge.

Why we need Shaq:

we have no idea just how injured Perkins is (see Yao Ming).

...also, Shaq has 4 rings, if he started (however likely that is at the beginning of the season) he would have as many rings as the rest of our starters combined.

also, Shaq is a great dancer:
