Shaq would make a fine 4th/5th big especially against teams like LA.

If Shaq's willing to play for the vet minimum (barring a sign and trade) and willing to come off the bench, I think this would be a great move: Perk will be out about half the season, and will likely take awhile to get back to form once he returns, and KG and JO have recent injury histories, so Boston could really use another solid big, and there are none available who are better than Shaq, who rebounds well, takes up lots of space, gets some easy buckets, plays solid D.

Signing Shaq is pretty much the only thing that could get me excited about this offseason again.

Well said ... I agree. (TP)

  • You know my methods, Watson.
if O'Neal gets injured (which is highly plausible) I'd LOVE to know that Shaq is on the bench.

Plus, I'd love to get him and Bill Russell together and have Russ try to interpret what Shaq is saying... :)

I didn't love what i saw of shaq this year but would be a great bench player. I mean our bench would be nasty!

Rondo/nate/bradley
allen/daniels/bradley
pierce/daniels/harangody
KG/BBD/haragody
Jo/Shaq/Perk

Best bench in the league by far. Come on let this happen! Also wouldn't mind signing up another vet for backup SG like a rasual Butler or roger mason.

We're the only one of the top 4 contenders (the others being LA, Miami and Orlando) that Shaq hasn't completely alienated.  The burning trails he left out of LA and Miami are still smoking, while his public disdain of Dwight Howard and Stan Van Gundy also rules out Orlando.

Unless he wants to gamble on longshots like Dallas, Portland, San Antonio, Denver or Atlanta, Boston's his best shot at another ring and another stop in the history books.

And matching Kobe with rings.

If we could sit him out the entire season until a hypothetical rematch against the lakers in the finals, where he'd be motivated. otherwise, waste of space  ;D

Shaq here would just be beastly. A frontline of Perk, JO, Shaq, BBD is unmovable. I think that definitely makes us better than the Lakers. We'd be able to bully the Heat in the paint and the Magic would be a non-factor (not that they ever were a factor :P). THe only issue would be convincing him of a role coming off the bench.

Bring him in. I can’t think of a better possible backup Center. You can’t name an option who is better.

Garnett, Davis
O’Neal, O’neal

then:

Garnett, Davis
Perkins, O’Neal, O’Neal

with J.O. being able to play both big positions.

Wow, I can't tell you how excited I was to just read the title of this thread in the 'forum topics' box.

Shaq in Celtics' green would be a dream come true and we could definitely make an argument for having the best roster in the NBA, at least during this upcoming season. Also, the Kobe-Shaq feud would be absurd this season, especially if we won it all, because Shaq would then be able to say that the Celtics needed Kobe's 'nemesis' in order to get past the Lakers... 8)

Or more like Shaq needed us to tie up Kobe in rings!

Is this "Shaq wants to play for the Celtics, maybe even if he has to sign for the veterans' minimum salary" or is it "Shaq has figured out that his best shot at getting a salary at around MLE level while playing for a contender is if the Celtics do a S&T for him involving Sheed's contract"?

For all the criticism that one might make about Shaq fitting into Boston's schemes, consider whether any of them criticisms may apply to Kendrick Perkins, or will to Perkins down the road (for those who view him as a future Celtics cornerstone, along with Rondo).
