No thanks.  The dude will take off the first 70 games and only start working hard in the playoffs.  That may work when you are a 7 foot tall 300 pound freak of nature at 26 years old, but not when you are closer to 40 years and 400 pounds.

Also, reading that article, I can't believe Shaq only won one regular season MVP!  That is crazy.

here's another link

That being said, odds are that someone will bite the bullet and add O'Neal. He'd have to agree to come off the bench, but he'd also be great at that since most backup centers aren't that good. Furthermore, he's always a good pickup from a marketing standpoint.

it would be nice to have him as a 3rd/4th Big if we could get him with a vet min.

Written by Tim Povtak, I assume it's most likely legit ... and if Shaq is willing to take on such terms for the sake of a championship, I'd love it.

I can't see how this would not be a great low risk/ high reward signing -- if he signs for the vet minimum.  What could be wrong? Shaq CAN take it relatively slow on this team -- but it's a team that could really use 15 minutes a night till Perk gets back.  Then it's about depth, match-ups and versatility at the 4 and 5.  Who could possibly be potentially more of an impact player at the vet minimum for this team than Shaq?

  • You say when......
There was something about him/his game that was just wrong on cleve.it was like....he said "this is how i play and you can adjust to it." He needs to adjust his game to fit here....Instead of going into the low post, and looking for the play to come to him.he needs to be a role player here, like perk was.....draw the D out, look for the rebounds, play some good hard D......not always looking for the ball and HIS shot...he is very slow, and not in great shape, if he can get there, run the floor better..but see, doc can't coach a guy like that...as i see it, only kg really runs this team..can kg direct shaq..?

If its true, then I would love to see him on the C's, but only if they can do a S+T for him at around 3 or 4 mil for 2 years. He would be useful against Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum in Particular.

I just want to see it so we can see Shaq beat that punk ass kobe in the finals and then sing this at the victory parade

Make it happen. Shaq can help the Celtics. If he will sign for the vet min then welcome to the green.

If Shaq signs for the minimum, it also changes the needs dynamic.  Without Shaq, Danny really needs another solid backup big in the fold (JO can't be expected to play a full season and Perk's return is an unknown). With Shaq signed, Danny can try to parlay Sheed into some solid wing depth (a defensive 3 or a shooting 2/3) -- and perhaps sign a big body at the minimum for spot minutes.  I also like the idea of Scal rounding out the roster.

And why wouldn't Shaq sign for the minimum.  My lord, we are talking about the difference of 1.5 v. 3 million for a guy who has mad about 200 million over the last 10 years.  He is an endorsement hound and being the 4th Hall of Famer on this team and setting up a possible showdown against his old team only adds spice to his 'brand'.

Pretty much what our whole team did last year ... and they did it effectively, (despite the fact I didn't like it). Shaq would be a great fit here ... I hope this happens. ;)
