Team president Ed Stafanski said Wednesday that the 76ers want Battie to provide frontcourt depth and a "veteran presence" for younger players.
The six-foot-11 Battie has averaged 6.4 points and 5.3 rebounds over 12 NBA seasons.
He has also appeared in 51 playoff games and was a member of the Orlando Magic's Eastern Conference title team in 2008-09.
Battie was traded to New Jersey last summer and played in 15 games for the Nets last season.
I had some hope that Danny might bring Tony back to be the last big off the bench. To be another good glue guy that has some shot blocking and rebounding.
This is a good move for Philly.
