I know Gomes got himself a little bit overpaid...  but ignoring dollars, wouldn't you rather have Gomesey on the court than Matt Barnes or Ime Udoka?

No.  We need people who can defend wings.  Gomes isn't that guy.  And it would be one thing if he was a subpar defender, but a great scorer, but he isn't that either.

I could only see him being useful on this team as the backup 4, but since BBD has that covered, I see no use for him.

Why all the chatter about Barnes, then?  He's a horribly overrated defender.  He doesn't help defend the 2.  He's a 3/4, just like Gomsey.  Hits a decent percentage of the longball, just like Gomsey.

Now, I'm not saying that YOU have been clamoring for Barnes, but lots of people have....  and for all the chatter about Barnes he's pretty much just an older version of Gomes (as far as I can tell).

I think you could throw in threads about Billups, Joe Johnson and Eddie House too.  Surprised no Lester Hudson or Gabe Pruitt on that list.  oh wait, Pruitt's the one ex-player besides Blount that hasn't had a 'bring back' thread yet.  nope, wait, even Skippy had bring back threads the summer before he was resigned.

Posey really should have been at the top of your list Nick.  most clamored-for ex-player we have in the past 2 years without regard to financial obligations or decreased ability.

I remember in the Summer of 2007 there was a poll on Celticsblog.

"Would you trade Big Al for Kevin Garnett?" The results were something like 80% NO 20% YES.

No way everyone said. Big Al is young and will be a much better player in the future than Garnett is now. Jefferson will win more titles than KG. (I think that was even someone's screen-name)

After word broke that the trade was going to happen I checked the poll again and the results reversed themselves...lol

Suddenly it was the best thing that ever happened.

Moral of the story. We like those who are Celtics. Once they are gone we usually have some desire for old times sakes to see them again on our team. And if anyone on the list were to be brought in everyone would suddenly be excited about it.

Good list.. However I am happy you didn't mention the man, the legend - Will Solomon. God I miss him!

Slam, TP4U!!!! I should be banned for a day from Celticsblog for forgetting about Posey!!

Another TP coming your way when I can because that was definitely worth double.

Tony Allen just left...so he doesn't count. You can't really lump TA in with the other former Celtics.

Don't get the Toine hate. The only thing the Celtics team has every done when they brought him back was win more games.....

Don't get the Toine hate?  His game was garbage.  He played the game like he lived his life.  Won games .. ugh yeah that glorious first round loss to lower seeded Pacers team. yuk

He's out there now!  He's cheap!

(He can't be any worse that Kwame, can he?)

I would really like to see that poll.  Not that I don't think you are correct (as sad as that is) but, it would be interesting to see.  I would have drove him myself if we could get KG.  Some actually think in hindsight the move wasn't good because they only won 1 ship and with Big Al we destined for Greatness..

There is a moral to that story and it's not we like our C's unfortunately.
