I don't get the angst against Shaq.  And how is that a "bring back"?  He was never here lol.  Believe it or not, a lot of these players want to get the most $ they can in a contract, especially if they are at the tail end of their ability to earn a paycheck.

+1.  Name me another guy that we can realistically attain who could have given us better halfcourt offense.  We lost the Finals in no small part because we couldn't score when the game slowed down.  KG's a jumpshooter.  Ray's a jumpshooter.  Paul and Rondo can't drive the lane effectively when the Lakers are playing Gasol and Bynum together.

Hell, we could have really used...   GASP!  Leon Powe!  at times during the finals.  Where's he on your list?

Notice the parentheses around the word "back". It means the phrase is optional depending upon whom the subject is about. In Shaq's case, don't use it.

Antoine Walker - the king of kings when it comes to threads about coming back to Boston. Hopefully his impending trial and possible jailtime will render these threads a thing of the past. Somehow, I doubt it will. Toine could be doing 12 years at Folsom Prison and people will still be creating the dreaded "Bring Back Antoine" threads.

Allen Iverson - if there was ever a player that embodied everything in the world that is the complete opposite of what it means to be a Boston Celtic, AI is that player. He is selfish, self centered, and neglectful. And that's just his basketball game. AI the person, let's not even go there. But he is available and all those kids who walked around in black 76ers jerseys in the late 90s and early 00s are probably still in love with his sorry act so my guess is we will still see "Get AI" threads pop up, even after he retires for good.

Shaquille O'Neal - this one is quickly becoming a thread I despise seeing. Shaq is about money and himself at this point in his career. He's old. He's makes a turtle look speedy. And he demands playing time, cash and attention above all else. I can not wait for him to sign on with someone else so this off season of "Here's another trade scenario for Shaq" can mercifully end

Tracy McGrady - these started at the the trading deadline last year and have gone tinued into this off season. TMac is a born loser of a player who has never gotten past the first round of a playoff series, is fragile and injury prone, plays defense worse than a chair, and has never seen a shot he hasn't instantly fallen in love with. The Clippers and he should be very happy together.

Tony Allen - they haven't really started yet, but they will so I am making a pre-emptive call on this one. Please, for the love of God, refrain yourself from EVER writing a "Bring Back Tony Allen" thread!!!

Billy Walker - the one that got away. The shining example of how Doc screws up by never playing young players. The "See, if Doc had played him he could have been doing this for us guy". If he gets cut by New York, which ihas more than a decent chance of happening, wait, the "Bring Back Billy Walker" threads will be in full swing.

Gerald Green - this list would not be complete without mentioning, the man, the myth, the legend, the player who will be the cause of "Bring Back" threads for the next decade at Celticsblog, Gerald Green. If I have to see one more "Bring Back Gerald" thread that is not an out and out joke, one more time......

Anyone Else From the 2007 Traded Players Group - yes that means you, Delonte, and you, Al, and you, Ryan. Love you guys but I am just sick and tired of the nostalgic look back at your losing ways and thinking that bringing you back now will somehow solve all the teams current problems.

Honestly though at this point of the off season...who really would be a better option than some of these guys?

Its tiring about hearing about them over and over but there arent really that many guys right now that would do more for a team than some of them.  Whats wrong with bringing back Gomes or Delonte?  Just because they were all a bunch of 22 year olds on a brutally terrible Celtics roster doesnt necessarily mean they cant help a team out.  Delonte was on a 66 win Cavs team if i remember correctly.  These guys are fringe players and arent going to be a make or break guy on a team.  Its not fair to harp on their "losing ways".  Is Pau Gasol a loser since he was on the Grizzlies for so many years?

The Celtics are just looking to fill our their roster with extra pieces.  Who would be a better backup SG than Tracy McGrady?  You wouldnt rather have him than Rashad McCants, Richard Jefferson, or Desmond Mason?  Tmac isnt going to be a focal point anymore, but as a role player?  Whats not to like?

The stupid parts of the threads are the people who ignore the fact taht some of these players are under contract...or like Antoine, just dont make any sense.  But I mean a few of these are viable options.

I like Leon and am not yet sickened by "Bring Back Leon" threads. But if you want, you can add him to your own list.

Here's where we differ, I don't see Shaq, AI Tmac, and these guys as viable alternatives.. Too many people look at these guys and remember what was and just refuse to see what is. They are chemistry killing, selfish, and tremendously limited players that refuse to see that they are no longer what they were and still want to play like they always did. They are not viable FOR THIS TEAM because of those things. This team needs role players that will fill the role and excel at it not washed up superstar that want to relive their golden years while riding along the coattails of others towards a championship.

I can't wait to post something along the lines of "Celtics Sign Antoine!....

Good list although I would add Powe and subtract Walker for the vet min.

Another good thread would be players that people want on the C's that have no talent and got little playing time on horrible teams but, are just missing piece that Boston needs.

I'm adding Leon to my list of "Players I've Love To See Wearing Green Jerseys Again"

As to Shaq; no pretension of him being anything near the player he's been in his career.  Watched enough of him to know that he can still be an effective offensive player, he's still an average rebounder, and he's going to have problems on D against more athletic guys.  Wouldn't mind having him around if we're matched up against Dwight Howard again; Perk's the best, but Shaq should do well in that kind of matchup as well.

Overall, the Shaq I saw last year is still a net-positive player, who could fill in some of the needs for this team.

So there!

(the rest of the list, I mostly agree with).

This is a great topic. Keeping my fingers crossed that it actually makes a difference. You know, Patrick O'Bryant looked pretty good during the summer league game I saw pieces of...

and yeah, I DID just say I watched parts of a Minnesota Timberwolves summer league game

Just the other day I thought about posting a "What about Raef Lafrentz" thread....and then I washed the vomit from my mouth.

I don't mind seeing the posts but I hate when there is 5 or 6 pages in a post and then I come back the next day and someone has posted the same thing with a different heading as if it were an original idea.

Some players are disruptive. Shaq is a good example. He is a bit of a Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. and likes to burn bridges. He is only good for certain matchups, but he has too much ego to accept that. He also wants more money than any GM feels he is worth.

I would also much rather have Richard Jefferson than McGrady.

I fully agree on Shaq, T-Mac, and AI (though perhaps, out of desperation, I'd take a gamble on T-Mac).

But as you write, this team needs role players.  That's what Delonte, Gomes, and many of the other "bring back ____" guys are, which is part of why they couldn't win games themselves.  That doesn't mean they can't help this team.
