Nick our big three didn't have a choice but did have a choice. PP had to do some heavy marketing for each of them to leave their team to come to us. If either refused to be traded to us Danny would have not traded for them.
It was a setup not quite like Miami's but its like not bringing in three strangers together. Before coming into the celts team the big three were pretty good friends
Doesn't matter if they were friends, and I think they were more like acquaintances, Ray had no choice but to come to Boston. He wasn't asked if he would go or not. He didn't have a no trade clause. He was traded and he came here that simple.
As for KG, KG threatened to not sign an extension if he was traded to Boston originally, before the Ray Allen trade. If he was traded then he would have had to have gone. It was BOSTON that demanded as a requisite of the trade that a long term extension be completed before the trade could be consummated. If Boston wanted to they could have still done the trade but then risked losing KG after one year.
KG and Ray had absolutely no say whatsoever in whether they could or could not have been traded to Boston. Once traded they had to come. KG could have caused Boston to not do the trade by refusing to sign an extension before being traded, but even if he did, Boston still could have agreed to the trade and then tried to sign him to that extension during the season if they wanted to.
The situations are completely different. The Big Three had almost no say whatsoever in being pushed together. The Miami trio conspired and worked diligently and CHOSE to be together.
