Before you blow me off, hear me out.  I really think that Shawn Marion has underperformed since leaving Nash.  Put him next to a true PG like Rondo, and he would return to 85% of his Suns' days, which would be great.  He is a very good volume 3-point shooter.  He is a very good defender and is athletic enough to play some PF and SF.

Yes, his contract goes 4 years, but PP's does as well.  Our rebuilding could then be done in 2 phases rather than most in 2012.

A simple Rasheed and Oliver for Marion works.

Thoughts??

One season to many for the Celtics plan.  Plus, his play was less then his pay.

decent thought - I'd try for a draft pick though if taking on Marion for that long...  he's in decline and offensively probably best case is he plateaus right below league average the next two years - his age and decline fit normal historical patterns, that I don't think Rondo can fix.

He does posses some skills that age well (height, shooting), but will his D go with his O?

Also, is Jason Kidd not a true PG?

Shawn Marion's offensive decline is due to his position.

He is still a very good offensive player when he is used as a power forward but no longer a good offensive player at the three.

Anyway, I don't see Dallas trading Marion. It would be a massive mistake to let such a talented player go.

I thought Marion should have been All-League defense last season. He was tremendous defensively for Dallas. Also one of the best rebounding small forwards in the league. The marginal offense isn't that big a deal when you're getting so much defensively + on the backboards.

Best idea ive seen on here for a while. I would love to bring him to Boston.

Rondo/Nate
Allen/Bradley
Pierce/Marion
KG/Baby
Perk/JO

I really really like that bench when we are in full health. Still would like to get a sg in place of bradley but ya cant be greedy.

BTW - I think Dallas should try and move Butler - he's a bad fit. Dirk and Marion are nice compliments at the forward spot. Butler should be the odd man out. Dallas has a pair of centers they can play to keep Dirk at PF, between them and Marion, they can keep Dirk on his easiest defensive matchup. If I were them I'd try Butler for Marvin Williams.

We need his boards more than his points.
