The only way I'd like Scalabrine back is if we really can't get anyone else to fill out the bench. Right now, considering the options, it really is looking like that will be the case. Ainge hasn't done a great job this offseason (although, still a ton of time left so I reserve the right to eat my words come training camp). There weren't a ton of options for DA but still - not matching on TA was a rough choice.

Don't want Scal, but rather have him than Shelden.  At least Scal isn't scared of playing in the playoffs.  Shelden was completely overwhelmed by the big moment.

he threw away 1 pass..big deal.....and it was on a rebound, something scal is afraid to do anyway. where was the rest of the team on that play anyway...was sheldon the only guy out there......what about pp doing that big hold the ball until ron artest stole it from him and went in for an easy layup...which he then fouled him too.....are you looking at the kid thru a microscope....lets see, one minute of play, after 3 months of pine, one mistake..big deal.....judge the kid on real expectations....scal doesn't make mistakes because he doesn't get involved...sits on the perimeter, waiting for what.....is he now your first choice...hahahahah...pass scal the ball, his shooting will "save" us...!  you don't have to like sheldon, but compare stats..please.....hey denver said they want to sign scal right away...ya, the junior high team....cause scal is 6'9"..he'll be a post up star....if we can get him near the paint...!

Two passes, back to back.  Made the exact same mistake the very next possession.  What a dope.

WOW, right on...call Denver, a pro team, ask them what are they thinking, tell them they made a mistake, tell them what you know...tell them they were supposed to sign SCAL...you know better than they do...right..? Tell the whole NBA, sign scal you dummies, hurry up before he is gone...... ;D

I did say I didn't want Scal back either. ::)

  • Another undersized Celtic...
Look i'm not a huge scal fan...but at the moment it seems like what we need, other than a wing, is a big. He's 6'11, knows the system, plays D, he'll take the vet min, never once heard him cry about wanting more minutes.. He's exactly what we need. He's not gonna be an offensive force, but he can hit the occasional 3, he's essentially just a slight downgrade from sheed.. and as the #3 big on the team i'll take that.

Lets not forget even tho he hasnt been very impressive we got erden too. He's young dont be so quick to brush him off.. he's not 6'10, he's not 6'11 he's a 7Footer, we just gotta cultivate him!!

There's good things about Scal--he's gonna give you 100% in practice to push our other bigs, sometimes he can play himself into a game and play a short burst of pesky d, or maybe drain a 3pt, and certainly dive on the floor, which is something Sheed wouldn't do unless he was diving for a lottery ticket or a porterhouse steak. But, Scal hasn't been healthy, which means he can't practice much, and ultimately can't help the team all that much. Offer him a place on the bench--as a coach or some sort, like Tyronne Lue. But please, sign a big that can give us some more, maybe an unproven younger guy who is hungry to show what he can do.

You don't sign him (yet) because of roster flexibility.  Just in case Ainge finds a good trade, Scal is the guy who can be given a contract to make the money work in a S&T.

He's not highly in demand, so there's no rush.  Heck, if there's no better use of the last roster spot, I think it might make sense to sign Scal to a one year deal for an amount more than the vet min so that the Celtics have an expiring contract that can be used to trade for someone making $3 million.

Seriously - we need SOMEONE to be rocking a camel-hair jacket and jeans. Who else is gonna pull that off??
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

There is certainly no harm in signing Scal back.  He is a good locker room guy, good practice player and IS capable of giving you a few good minutes here and there if needed.  As long as you're not counting on him to be a major role player - Scal is a "glue" guy on a championship caliber team.

No harm in bringing him back but really does it make any difference. He'll only be the 13th or 14th guy on the bench.

Really just not worth even discussing considering the low impact. (Not that I dislike the guy)

come on man, that is the worst suggestion ever.

the guy is a waste of money and roster spot. can't believe we had him the last few years.

I just think there's bigger things to worry about right this second.  Scal would be OK at the minimum, but we already have 9 players under contract, plus the Lafayette, Gaffney, and Edren (though only partly guaranteed I believe).  That's 12 possible players.  We at least need a legit 5 (not Scal) to stand in for Perk and at least one, if not two, other wings.  That's 14 or 15 players right there, or 11-12 if you anticipate on us cutting all three of the Summer Leaguers.

Plus, if we do end up trading Sheed's deal, we may have to take back more players than we take (a 1 for 2, or 2 for 3 type deal).  If that was the case, Danny could end up having to cut Scal after he signed him.

So I think it's possible, but I think Danny wants to see how things play out before he makes any calls.  Scal would certainly be an OK 5th big until Perk comes back when he'd become the 6th (which was his role this year).

It's not worse than a suggestion to bring back Mark Blount.

I think the C's go with 7 big men + 8 perimeter players.

Three guards -- Rondo + Nate + Bradley
Five wings -- Ray + Pierce + Main Backup + two minimum contract players
Seven big men -- Perk + Garnett + Jermaine + Davis + fifth big (Scal) + sixth big (Harangody) + seventh big (Erden)

Harangody essentially replacing Shelden Williams from last season.

If the Celtics want to sign another big man, I think they'll need to cut Erden or one of their backup big men.

If he is willing to pay for his ticket and sit in the stands, then I am all for it. If we have to pay him, then look for a better alternative. Might be a good assistant coach candidate, at best!!
