I just think there's bigger things to worry about right this second.  Scal would be OK at the minimum, but we already have 9 players under contract, plus the Lafayette, Gaffney, and Edren (though only partly guaranteed I believe).  That's 12 possible players.  We at least need a legit 5 (not Scal) to stand in for Perk and at least one, if not two, other wings.  That's 14 or 15 players right there, or 11-12 if you anticipate on us cutting all three of the Summer Leaguers.

Plus, if we do end up trading Sheed's deal, we may have to take back more players than we take (a 1 for 2, or 2 for 3 type deal).  If that was the case, Danny could end up having to cut Scal after he signed him.

So I think it's possible, but I think Danny wants to see how things play out before he makes any calls.  Scal would certainly be an OK 5th big until Perk comes back when he'd become the 6th (which was his role this year).
I think the C's go with 7 big men + 8 perimeter players.

Three guards -- Rondo + Nate + Bradley
Five wings -- Ray + Pierce + Main Backup + two minimum contract players
Seven big men -- Perk + Garnett + Jermaine + Davis + fifth big (Scal) + sixth big (Harangody) + seventh big (Erden)

Harangody essentially replacing Shelden Williams from last season.

If the Celtics want to sign another big man, I think they'll need to cut Erden or one of their backup big men.
If those seven players are the Celtics big men ...

I'd like to see Harangody take over as the fourth big man in the Celtics rotation until Perkins gets back healthy. I think Scalabrine plays very well alongside Garnett and alongside Perkins but I'm not sure about him alongside Jermaine or BBD.

I also think Harangody will be the better matchup on most nights rather than Scalabrine ... although, Scal should play ahead of the rookie when their is a perimeter orientated big man for him to defend ... And, on nights where they maybe need a little more length inside, go with Erden instead of Harangody.

I suppose a better description would be a revolving choice for the fourth big based on matchups. Since each backup big man offers such a different skill-set. But I imagine Harangody will be the best matchup most often, so I would expect him to get the most minutes.

Don't want Scal, but rather have him than Shelden.  At least Scal isn't scared of playing in the playoffs.  Shelden was completely overwhelmed by the big moment.

he threw away 1 pass..big deal.....and it was on a rebound, something scal is afraid to do anyway. where was the rest of the team on that play anyway...was sheldon the only guy out there......what about pp doing that big hold the ball until ron artest stole it from him and went in for an easy layup...which he then fouled him too.....are you looking at the kid thru a microscope....lets see, one minute of play, after 3 months of pine, one mistake..big deal.....judge the kid on real expectations....scal doesn't make mistakes because he doesn't get involved...sits on the perimeter, waiting for what.....is he now your first choice...hahahahah...pass scal the ball, his shooting will "save" us...!  you don't have to like sheldon, but compare stats..please.....hey denver said they want to sign scal right away...ya, the junior high team....cause scal is 6'9"..he'll be a post up star....if we can get him near the paint...!

Two passes, back to back.  Made the exact same mistake the very next possession.  What a dope.

WOW, right on...call Denver, a pro team, ask them what are they thinking, tell them they made a mistake, tell them what you know...tell them they were supposed to sign SCAL...you know better than they do...right..? Tell the whole NBA, sign scal you dummies, hurry up before he is gone...... ;D

I did say I didn't want Scal back either. ::)

Bah....

  • 36 charges and counting..
The very sad truth about the situation with FA is that Scal,Quis,Sheldon,Nate and even TA is that these guys at the end of the season almost nobody wanted or thought would be back.  There was quite a bit of support for TA and some for Nate, but not overwhelming.  Now the market is so picked over, they're the 'cream of the crop', and now fans are ecstatic we got Nate and are saying Quis and Scal wouldn't be that bad to sign! If that doesn't show how bad and desperate a situation we're in, nothing will!
With only 2-3 exceptions, there is no one left in FA that would be a 'significant' contributor to winning a championship, or stepping in for a lengthy period of time for an injured starter!
I would rather have rooted/cheered for a team of young players with no chance of the playoffs, than for a team that has only a prayer and has admittedly no interest in playing the regular season.  Not much to look forward to!
Against all odds I keep hoping for Danny to come up with that 'big deal' with Sheed's contract-maybe bring in a RJefferson, or Shaq, but my sense is that it's just not going to happen, if it hasn't yet!

The backup wing has replaced the backup Pg position this off season...  It reminds me of the movie Inception.  It's as if reading the same thing incessantly will make some people actually believe in it and drop all rational thought in relation to it.  Yes signing a backup wing is more important than every starter coming back and being a contender.  Danny should just trade everyone and go with the youth because they can't get Matt Barnes or Kyle Korver in Green... Rationally though neither of those guys or any other back up wing is even close to that important.  Do yourself a favor and never play a game of poker you would lose all your money in the first 5 mins.

Ledge meet C's fans during the off season.

Backup wing? Our bench right now is Baby and Nate. Try backup 2,3, and 5!
Frankly, yes, we would have been better off future wise trading everyone but Rondo and Baby and getting young guys with big upside and/or high future picks! Last year was great cause of the playoffs, but regular season was terrible.  Not looking forward to that again!

Yeah the C's lucky last year after that horrendous regular season..
Give me that same exact scenario and I'll take the risk of blowing it game 7 of finals every time.  And there is little factual data to conclude that the C's would field a better team than the EC champions trading only players that are any good and keeping Rondo.  It should be interesting in 2 years when they get to that stage and seeing all the responses to all losing we will be doing.  Hopefully you won't be one of those people that will complain about both.. the losing and the winning.

He's in the NBA.  And although he isn't the greatest playerm if he didn't have those talents and skills he obviously wouldn't be in the league.

Remember Duckworth....he was in the NBA...Acie Earl, our own....more than that that were there, but didn't really belong. There were many that did, but didn't get to play enough also..scal had 5 years on a good to great team...i never saw him change from one year to the next.......no improvement at all......scally, go to the gym, work out, get a shooting coach, big man camp to learn some post up footwork, get those shoes....the ones that make you jump higher....eventually...!  ( like cramer and george...!).
