C's interested in T-Mac?

Folks, T-Mac is not done. What he is, is "not ever going to be a superstar/franchise guy" again, but dont mistake him not being a go-to-guy/superstar, with him not being able to play the game of basketball still.

I also doubt TMac is available for the vet min.  If he had to choose between the Heat or the Celtics for the vet min, no question it will be the Heat, bc of tax differences, climate, and the ability to be on ESPN every night sitting next to LBJ.

As long as he's close to 100% by playoff time I could care less.. Look at how bad Nate looked at times with new york, if your really basing the rest of his career off of what happened during the 2nd half of the season then your crazy! We NEED players that can backup the big 4 and can actually contribute out there.. All we need id for the big 4 to be healthy by the playoffs and they *will not* be 100% healthy with Bradley, Daniels, or Barnes as their backup, I really feel comfortable with Mac backing up Allen or Pierce because they can actually rest. The only reason Barnes shot almost 43% was because of the attention Dwight drew which caused him 2 be wide open on almost all of his attempts.

What would be nice is if the Cs could entice T-Mac with a $3M/year offer.  Then the Cs could use Sheed's contract in a trade to NY, which would send Turiaf and a S&T T-Mac to Boston.  That would address Boston's need for another big man and a backup wing.

Thinking it over, I'm pretty sure he's not superstar-guy anymore, but he's still a weapon off the bench.  I think his shooting (excellent range) will complement Nate well, with Nate being the playmaker and McGrady coming off screens or posting up instead of running 90's style isolations.

I can also see Quisy doing well sharing 3rd option duties, but using his length at SG instead of SF, but taking the main defensive assignment anyway, and hitting baseline jumpers or making the extra pass.  I think Quisy would do fine.

I would want another big guy, perhaps a running big (likely a PF, with BBD at C).  Nate/Quisy/T-Mac/Someone/BBD could be an effective 15 minute unit, likely expanding the lead against most teams, while showing a different look, requiring the other team to make an adjustment.

Great point but remember this, Doc Rivers was actually his coach before, KG,Paul,Ray are closer to his age and I'm sure they have a much better friendship with him than LBJ,Wade,Bosh.. Plus him and Kg have been with addias forever so I know they're very close friends.

Great point but remember this, Doc Rivers was actually his coach before, KG,Paul,Ray are closer to his age and I'm sure they have a much better friendship with him than LBJ,Wade,Bosh.. Plus him and Kg have been with addias forever so I know they're very close friends.  

This is true.  He also has the chance to get more playing time here as of right now.  He'd be our first wing off the bench if he was signed today, while in Miami he'd have issues getting time behind LBJ, Wade and Miller.

I would welcome T-Mac for the minimum, or if a trade netted a big with him. I think he would probably prefer Boston over Miami because, 1)he could play a more prominent role on offense off the bench, 2) he has been coached by Doc before, 3)He is much closer in age to our Big 3 than Miami's Big 3. 4) That he would be the leader of our second unit and provide instant energy and scoring with Nate and BBD.

If we sign T-Mac, I would definitely be open to a second unit of

SF-Howard or Barnes
PF-Baby
 C-Perk/Turiaf

That bench would give our starters considerable rest and help secure Banner 18, even Though Stern has already sent the trophy to South Beach.

That would clearly be the best 2nd unit of the Big 3 era

As much as I would like to have TMac come off the bench and still have the talent left to be dangerous. And between the teams of the Lakers, Magic, Heat and our Celtics I think all of the teams can only offer him the vet minimum but I just don't see him turning down money if another team... good or bad wants to pay him.

We're more likely to land either Barnes or Daniels (if it were just down to those 3)

I concur. Why anyone wouldn't want to take a flier on McGrady is beyond me. What better options do we have?

I dont see T-mac going to South Beach because he'll get no "Love".  All love will be reserved for the Cerberus.  Coming to Boston could illuminate his career a bit and even give him a chance at 6th man of the year IMO

I would loooove T Mac here. But i dont think he signs for the vet min. I bet he will get an MLE contract somewhere... If Brad Miller can make 5 mil a year, T Mac can get an MLE from some team.

Agreed.  

Finley was more productive off the bench in Boston than Tmac was in New York (speaking of which, where are all the "bring back Finley" threads?).

BUT:
(1) When was the last time a D'Antoni team was asked to play defense?
(2) T-mac was recovering from injury, as he always seems to be.  If he has made more progress in the offseason, I think it could be worth it.

On (2), my biggest gripe about TMac is his injury history.  A search (I'm too lazy to do it) of Cblog posts from 2-3 years ago would reveal that many would have jumped at the chance to trade Pierce for Tmac straight up.  In my opinion, Pierce has *always* been better than Tmac, because you have to factor in the injuries.

But I'm rambling.  

Back on track: If the Cs want T-Mac, and are relatively sure he has recovered from the injury, its going to take more than the vet min.  Hence the S&T with Turiaf for Sheeds contract.
