Resigning Marquis at this point is our best possible option. Then we could use Rasheeds contract to net a young big man.
thoughts?

He just does not give us very much. He is too passive. And he wants nothing to do with the Celtics.

He was injured practically all year. He never fully recovered from the hand injury and how do you know he wants nothing to do with the Celtics. I had not heard that. source?

I wasn't thrilled with Daniels but at this point he may be our best option if we can't get Fernandez or Howard.

I'd re-sign Marquis, but preferably not as the third wing.  I'm really hoping we can find a way to land Rasual Butler, although I'm doubtful that can happen.

I was a big fan of pre-injury Marquis, but he was totally different after the injury. And he has made getting injured an annual tradition.

I'd like a few other guys more as our third wing as well: Rasual, Josh Howard, Rudy F, maybe a few others.

I wouldn't re-sign Marquis Daniels. The combination of his poor or uneven play with this team last season + the injury risk ... kills my interest in him as a player.

I would rather use the roster spot on one of the minimum contract player options.

TP...your statement of "And he has made getting injured an annual tradition"is exactly what im thinking/feeling.Seems to always be something that keeps him from playing a large number of games during any given season .I also question his desire to win as bad as we need from him. IMO

Do we even have his bird rights?
"All I have to know is, he's my coach, and I follow his lead. He didn't have to say anything in here this week. We all knew what we had to do. He's a big part of our family, and we're like his extended family. And we did what good families do when one of their own is affected." - Teddy Bruschi

I don't know what to make of MDaniels.  At times he looked as though he was going to be everything we wanted in our 6th man wing.  Then he got injured and played poorly well beyond the point where you would think the injury was the problem.

I believe that we can still be a true title contender if we get a real good 6th man wing.  I believe it needs to be a 3/SF or a combo whose most natural position is the 3.  I don't think Marquis is that guy though.  I don't know if we can get someone like Josh Howard or Marvin Williams but I think that is the calibar of player we need.  Marquis could be fine for added depth at the right price and I suspect he will be available at that price.

The big reason to try to re-sign Marquis is that we can offer him more than the minimum (a certain % raise on the LLE), thus we can possibly offer him more than other teams are going to.  Unfortunately, with other wings, we can't offer more than other people.

It wasn't too long ago that we were all thrilled to have him be our 3rd wing.  I think that's still possible, and even if it's not, he'd make a heck of a 4th wing behind Howard or the like.

Is Rasual Butler any good? I'd have to look up his stats. I admit I don't know much about him.

As for Marquis, I would love to have him back here. Maybe I am the only one but I think he's alot more talented than people think. He's tall, athletic and can rebound & shoot.

If he comes back healthy and finds his niche on this team, he would be a HUGE asset for the Celtics.

As for the poster who said Marquis doesn't want anything to do with the Celtics, I've never once heard that at all.

Rasual Butler is a good role player as a big shooting guard and a liability as small forward (mainly due to his inability to rebound the ball).

Butler is a good defender at when he has a size advantage (shooting guards) but an average one against comparable or larger players (small forwards).

Offensively, Butler is good perimeter shooter who provides hardly anything else. His shooting ability is pretty good but quite inconsistent. His lack of alternative ways of scoring and the inconsistency with his jumper leads to mediocre scoring efficiency numbers (only one season above 54% TS% and half his career was poor at or below 50%).

If you check out his three point shooting percentage by year you'll see it's all over the map. Two of the past three years he is down around 33% and in between he was at 39%. Before that it was 37-38% and a year prior at 46% (with Dwyane Wade). He generally shoots the ball well once he gets good service (which he should have here in Boston) but falls off without it. I'd expect him to be at or above his career three shooting percentage of 36%.

To repeat the first line -- Butler is a good role player as a two guard (good perimeter shooting + good defense) and a liability as a small forward (very poor rebounding + decent defense + good perimeter shooting). That is what you'll get from him.

Daniels made $1,990,000 last year. We can give him the biggest raise the league allows for another year. He came here to play for a contender, get some recognition, and earn himself a big paycheck. He was plagued with a thumb injury last year so we only saw flashes of what he can do for us. I think he's the best option out there right now. If we resign Marquis, we can trade Sheed for another backup wing to round out the depth chart.

As I've said before, I'm fine with resigning Daniels. Not going to reach a definitive conclusion on him, based on one injury-plagued season - especially not when we've had a track record of waiting YEARS on other flawed players, such as TA.
