when will the obsession with Shaq stop? He does not fulfill a need of ours, and he is so over the hill.

Totally disagree with you in every sense of the word!!  Shaq would be a HUGE signing for the Celtics. He's been over the last 15 years, one of the legit centers in the NBA would be a great defender vs. Howard and Gasol.

Also, does everyone here really think that Perkins is going to suddenly be amazing once he comes back from being out for 8 months??!! Please.  Give me Shaq anyday.  Shaq, Jermaine, KG and Davis sounds like a [dang] good frontcourt to me.

Cleveland looks to be seeking quality young players and seek playoff contention in the short-term.  I don't think they'd be interested in Sheed's salary savings for anyone but Antawn Jamison.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

So who is gonna back up Ray and Paul? Shaq? No thanks. Our biggest need is back up wings. We will be able to land a Vet. Min. Big that will be fine until Perk gets back.

Sheed's deal needs to be for a legit wing, capable of being a starter, like Josh Howard. IF a Big can be had in the deal, then all the better.

If it's Shaq and Parker (who I prefer over Moon) then it's a pretty good thing IMO. Shaq would be able to defend Howard and then pound Miami's weak and thin front line, which are our two biggest challengers in the East. Parker would be the veteran shooter off our bench and then we could re-sign Daniels (last year's FA sweetheart) and hope he shows his pre-injury form.

A bench of Baby, Daniels, Shaq or JO, Robinson, and Parker would be a very solid bench. At the center you would have a big who does play in the post, something Sheed was hesitant to do last year, and our bench was much better when playing off that post play. As for Daniels, his slashing style would be much better served playing alongside two capable shooters in Robinson and Parker.

Agree with gpap but if he doesn't come fore the minimum...no thank you.

I don't think Shaq helps that much.  We already have 3 very good big men, and we'll have a 4th at some point.  It's really not worth wasting Sheed's deal to get a big man.  I'd rather gamble that Perk can get healthy for the playoffs than gamble we can find adequate depth behind Pierce and Allen with Parker/Moon and a minimum guy.

Parker I'm mildly interested in, but I hope we can do better than him and land a Howard/Prince type.

We desperately need someone to take pressure off of Pierce and Allen.  Neither could come up big in the last two games of the NBA Finals and I really blame that on being overplayed not only in the regular season, but throughout the playoffs.  But I can't blame Doc for that, because if he hadn't played them that much, we might not have made it that far.

Is only having 3 solid big men for the first half of the year going to result in too many minutes for KG and JO? What if Perk has a setback in his rehab?   Let's say Perk does return strong, he still is a non-factor offensively and won't be able to take advantage of Miami's Center by Committee as well as Shaq would. Having Perk, and a potentially not 100% Perk at that, would allow the Heat to play us much more honest on D.

Basketball is a game of matchups and ur biggest threats to #18 are as follows:

Orlando. Shaq isn't as good defensively as Perk is on Howard, but he is big enough to not allow good post position and could draw some fouls from Howard.

Miami. There Center by Committee looks to be between Big Z, Magloire, Haslem, Anthony, and Juwan Howard. How many of those players could Perk take advantage of in the post? How many of those players could Shaq take advantage of in the post? Is Perk's better defense than Shaq really necessary vs. any of those players?

LA Lakers. They often play Gasol at the 4 when Odom replaces Bynum. Gasol was able to do this because Perk is a non-factor offensively. However, if we have Shaq the Lakers simply won't have the luxury of doing that and if they do they seriously risk having Shaq get Gasol in foul problems.

The worry about Shaq's defense against Miami is in the pick and roll against Wade and LeBron + in transition + general defensive rotations + showing on off the ball screens (like Ray running off a baseline screen for a catch and shoot).

Not his man-to-man defense against the opponent center for Miami.

What about a monster deal that completely gets them out of a sticky cap situation?

Sheed, Perk, Davis, Quisy ($1.5M) and Robinson ($4M)

for

Williams, Varejao, Hickson, Parker and Moon

Very creative idea. TP to you, especially for getting Varejao. Also, could stick it to Lebron, that we could win a championship with his "supporting cast", while he could not. Yeah, I like that.
