It works in the trade machine.  If we really want to have a chance at beating Miami, I think this is the way to go.  Rondo is awesome, but he's not a closer.  Chris Paul is a shade better and he can finish games.

Again, while I'd love to see CP3 in green, I don't know what the incentive is for NO to move Paul for Rondo with Collison on their bench.

They get a top 3 point guard on a longer/cheaper deal.  Rondo is also less injury prone and younger.  If you are in rebuilding mode, which they clearly are, Rondo makes a lot of sense for them.  NO is not contending for a title next year, or the year after with the roster they have.  They are over the cap and they didn't even make the playoffs.

This trade would destroy the celtics. Our biggest problem right now is our lack of depth. So we are going to trade two of our current 6 signed rotation players for one, as well as our only other means for getting a good player? Why? Plus as the other poster pointed out, NO would not want a pg back for Paul cause they have collison.

The deal - as much as I'd love to see Paul in Boston - makes NO sense for NO. None at all.

I agree we would be giving up too much depth, but maybe if we took back a bad contract like Posey it would make more sense.

As for Collison, he is a significant drop-off from Paul. Rondo is not. I'd move Collison for another piece if I was NO. Maybe a real wing player. Rondo and West with an all-star 2/3 would make a nice team.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
How could this team afford to bring on Chris Paul and still have a 12 man roster under contract?

I wouldn't trade Rondo for Paul straight up.
