Im kind of surprised Pierce made those comments, and Danny can't be super pleased to see that. There are lot of players that are still unsigned and there are also a lot of players that will be traded. I am glad we didn't just go nuts and trade Rasheed's contract for Drew Gooden.
I'm not following he says we need some backups that appears to be pretty logical. The whole twitter thing is dumb but, I still don't get what people find surprising about those comments.
Well how I view it is Danny just signed Pierce to a nice guaranteed 4 contract. Then he went out and signed his good friend and other star player 20 million for two years. He immediately went out and got arguably the best guy available for the mid level exception (definitely one of the players that fills a huge need). Now we lose a player, who according to danny, was made the same offer and Pierce feels the need to point out our weaknesses and say our rival is looking better then us? I don't see the point of doing that? If anything Pierce could be out like Lebron and other players and trying to recruit people to boston to fill these needs. Not lamenting the fact that we haven't signed more people.
if pierce is so upset that we aren't making moves, maybe he shouldn't have done a 'MAX' contract and left a little more on the table. Maybe then we could offer more FAs more $$$
Exactly what I was thinking. Shave a little off that contract and sure, we'll add another player or two...or three.
Only in Boston can people complain about resigning Pierce, Allen, and getting Jermaine O'neal to boot. You kept most of the Eastern Conf Champions together, and added O'neal.
Thats a helluva offseason, btw.
So what, you lost Tony Allen. I don't see why Danny can't go out and get another one of those. Hell, I'm not so sure you'll even miss a Tony Allen with Avery Bradley on board. His fastbreak game might be better than Tony's, and the defense might be there to boot. Who knows what you have in him yet. Talent is surely there. Lets see how it meshes.
