Barnes wants to get paid.  If he is forced to sign for the vet min, I see him preferring to go to a team where he thinks he has a chance to win a starting job.

hmm that doesn't seem logical.  Let's say he does sign for vet min wouldn't he pick a team that has a chance of contending?  Starting job will probably come with more money in fact.

He appears to be the perfect fit for Miami.

Compare that to Tony or Marquis and you will find that his overall contributions will be much more than what either of those guys could provide.

His overall contributions would be much more than Marquis and much more than Tony on the offensive end, not the defensive end, which you know Nick.

Everyone knows that Tony's importance came from guarding guys like Kobe, LeBron, D-Wade (even though D-Wade ate us up), Carter (even though Carter is not that good anymore) etc.
No I don't know that.

First off I think his total game is better than both other player's total games. Second, while Tony's defense is good, I believe a healthy Barnes playing in our system can be almost as good. Tony's defense here is tremendously over rated as the system he had behind him helped to make him better than people think.

Would Tony be a better defender than Barnes against SGs? Yeah. Would Barnes be a better defender against SFs. Yes.

I agree that his total game is better than TA's and I hope you're right, which I think you could be, that TA's defense was more of a product of our system and overrated because of that, but I still don't know if Matt is a better defender than TA.  Hopefully Barnes is a better defender and if he comes here will be much better than TA.

If TA's defense is a product of the system, why wasn't Ray able to handle Wade and Kobe as well as Tony did? Different system?

I can see not liking Tony, and I can see that there's a plethora of reasons for not liking him. But claiming that he didn't play great defense in the playoffs and that you can plug anyone else in and get similar results is ridiculous.

Surprised, eh?

LA Clippers for the loot. Scratch that: how about New Jersey.
Boston Celtics for the win.

....Miami would not be so surprising....

I think it's going to be the Celtics or the Heat, but I think it'll be the Heat.

Well, I would not be surprised if he went to the Heat, so he's not going there, LOL.

Good point lol TP.

Even if they play Wade at PG, with Miller already in Miami that means Barnes would be signing there for little money and little playing time.  My guess would be either Chicago, LA or Boston.

I will be watching where he ends up. I am hoping here. We need to make another move and he would be a nice piece to the puzzle. If we can get Nate back after that we should have a nice roster. Through in another 2 guard like a Ronnie Brewer nice Defensive 2nd unit of

Nate(Scorer/Decent D)
Brewer(Defender/Slasher)
Barnes(In your head kind of player/3 point shooter)
BBD(Good offense/Solid D
JO/Perk(Good offense for our team/Great D from both)

Don't forget thet Perk will miss at least half the season. That means JO starts, plays 25-30 minutes and we have no backup center.

To me, finding another big man is as important as finding our backup wings.

Ray Allen handled Kobe just fine -- the only problem is Ray Allen cannot play 48 minutes per game. Saying that Tony Allen can be replaced with just anyone is an overstatement, but he's certainly not irreplaceable.

More important than RA's minutes is how he plays those minutes. On one end he was dealing with Wade & Kobe and on the other he's running around an endless amount of screens looking to get open.

With Davis able to play some at center, I'm less concerned with finding another big.  Another one is definitely needed, but getting a guy to be productive at the wing is more important than getting a big body who just won't suck.

#Celtics in the home stretch for Matt Barnes. If they can land him for the vet's minimum ... a definite summer heist for Danny Ainge.
