Is he serious about trying to convince Sheed to play another year? Does he want less playing time for himself and for Ray and Paul to wear out by the all-star break, or does he think Ainge signed him to play the wing?

When did he say that?  I didn't here it in the video.  Is he friends with Rasheed?  That would be sweet if he came back.

It's on Forsbergs twitter:

"ESPNForsberg

Jermaine O'Neal said he's been in touch with Rasheed Wallace, helped sell him on Boston. JO plans to lobby for 'Sheed to return."

Yeah, all things considered, I'd take Rasheed back for another year if the C's can find a solid minimum wager for the backup 2/3 role.

This is a slippery slope. There is some thinking out there (that I think is faulty) that is of the mind that all the Cs need is a decent backup SG and SF, since the Cs have All Stars for starters.  The idea is that we "just need someone to fill in for 15-18 mins while the starters take a breather".

I think it is completely opposite.

I think that because our starters are so old, and have had long playoff runs, that their minutes need to be limited during the regular season, and that our 6, 7 and 8 men off the bench need to play lots and lots of minutes.

I think Nate and BBD (and JO once Perk comes back) help in this regard, but that we need a wing who can play 25 mins off the bench... *at least*.  I don't foresee getting that with the vet min.  I think Sheeds contract needs to be used to get this type of player.  We are talking about a Lamar Odom type player (no, I don't mean him in particular, but a player like him that would start on a non-championship contender).

Sorry, don't mean to hijack: welcome to Boston JO.

Very good signing IMO. What jersey number for JO?

I tend to agree about the need for a 25 mpg backup wing.  I guess the only good news is that during the regular season, we more or less can limit Pierce and Allen the way KG is limited regardless of who we have backing them up.  It may mean a few less wins, but oh well.

However, I think we also need to make sure not to overextend them during what hopefully is a long playoff run.  I kept saying to myself last month, how can Ray keep missing all these open jumpers?  The likely reason?  Exhaustion.  He guarded Wade, helped on LeBron, guarded Carter and Reddick, and then chased Kobe around for 40 mpg.  When we really need that 25 mpg wing is during the playoffs.

I guess the only good news is that we don't necessarily have to do that deal now.  It could be done after the season starts.  It could be a buyout later on.  It even could be a buyout of a big that eventually lets us be able to trade Baby.

Yeah, I hear ya. In this case that back up wing would have to be the most amazing minimum signing since PJ Brown. I dont see it happening yet, but the summer is young.

Jermaine O'Neal always gives a good press conference. Hits all the right buzz words and says all the right things.

Unfortunately, he doesn't back up his words on the court.
So true.  I see that he mentioned that he stunk up the playoffs because he got kicked in the ankle.  Sad that he mentioned that and sad that all it takes is a kick to the ankle to make JO dissappear.  This isn't a fluke.  This is Jermaine in a nutshell for his career.

I love this Jermaine O'neal signing.  It shocked me though, because I can't believe Pat Riley was unable to get the JO to stay in MIAMI.

Sheed please get healthy, come back, and take ALL of BBD's minutes this time.

I bet if he can do it physically, we'll see Wallace again.

Wallace's playoff performance covered up a little bit of the sour taste caused by his regular season performance.  But nowhere near enough to make me think I want to see another entire year of Wallace.
If JO is indeed tring to get Wallace to come back, he is already hurting us before even putting on a uniform!

They spent their money on Miller (a shooter they desperately need and will be big for them) and Haslem (who is a character guy they really want around).  O'Neal obviously would be good on that team but I just don't think they have the money. Basically they're gonna be handing out vet minimums.  O'Neal would want to play with us for more money and we're obviously a good chance for him to get a ring.

I'm not sure about Jermaine's injury claim, but I think he played below potential in the playoffs compared to what he did all season (and to credit us we played great defense and no one plays better D than Perk). I think he'll give up some on D compared to Perk but his ability to hit short-midrange j's will open up the floor for Rondo and everyone else.  Good signing.
