It has been known that Joe Dumars wants to be active this summer via Trades and Free Agency, particularly in trading Tayshaun Prince or Rip Hamilton (maybe both).  Guess they're rebuilding around Stuckey, Bynum, Villanueva, Greg Monroe.
Is there any way the Celts could get either Tayshaun or Rip??  Would DA consider this??  Could the Celts put together a package using Rasheed's contract (allowing Sheed to officially retire as a Piston) to get Tayshaun or Rip w/ another needed piece (a back-up big), like a Maxiell, Wilcox, or how about this Jonas Jerebko kid??  CAN, and WOULD, the C's get PRINCE or RIP??

As of now Sheed's deal won't land Prince. Detroit would like a better option and they certainly have time to wait it out. The Celtics dont want Hamilton and that third year. Also Detroit is building around Ben Gordon too, don't forget him.

Sheed's deal can't land either Price or Rip by itself unless you add Perk or a sign-n-trade with Nate to the deal.  Ainge probably could get Villaneuva.

I have a feeling Detroit is looking for something more, but if they don't get it, I wonder if they would consider Sheed, Nate, plus a first round pick for Prince.

Or perhaps, much like with Battier, the way to get him would be to jump in on a 3-way deal, where a team was looking for salary relief, and a pick, rather than Prince.

I don't see the C's being interested in Rip however.

Rip's been on the trading block since about thirty, maybe thirty-five seconds after they signed him to that extension.

Rip's not going to happen.  He'd help us next year, but he's got three more years on his contract; Danny's not killing his 2012 flexibility for him.  Price looks to be expiring (thought for some reason he had a couple years left), which makes him more enticing but also more difficult to obtain.  Not as much of a need to dump him just to save salary; Detroit will be looking to get talent back.

Pretty much all we have to offer is BBD (who we can't give up unless a big guy's coming in return), some cash, or maybe the rights to Avery Bradley.  Don't see any of those being a fit, either for us or for them.  Wouldn't give up Perk, we absolutely need Perk for next spring (and he'd likely only play thirty games for them before becoming an unrestricted free agent).

Would love  to get Tay. I’m bummed that it’s basically not possible.

WAIT.

If Detroit is resigning Big Ben to a minimum deal... couldn’t we sign him to a minimum deal, then package him with Rasheed’s contract. That way it’s worth like 10.9 going to Detroit for Tayshaun’s 11.1.

The Pistons then get to dump Prince’s contract from the books, and get a guy at the price they wanted him for anyways.

could this work?

According to hoopshype, this is Tayshaun's last year on his contract.  I can't imagine any scenario where Detroit trades an 11 million dollar expiring deal of a player who can actually contribute to a team for Rasheed's deal (other than trading Rondo, and no one wants that).

Prince would be a perfect fit, but I'm sure that the Pistons can get much more for him.

Hamilton I don't particularly love, given the length of his contract.  However, here's a question for the group: if it's a choice between trading for Hamilton or settling for whoever is left at the minimum (meaning no one wants Sheed's contract for anything better), do you roll the dice on Hamilton?

I'm torn myself.  It's great and all to talk about 3 years down the road, but if we narrowly miss out on #18 again this year, will we be kicking ourselves?

Prince is expiring in one year so it's not like he is killing their financial situation. I'd definitely kick the tires on him, though. Would be a phenomenal bench option.

Rip is intriguing because 2012-13 is unguaranteed. I'm curious if it is partially guaranteed or what because that would have him coming off of the books with Ray and KG or give us a sweet Dust chip to get a good player from a financially strapped team. (like Dallas just got Tyson Chandler)

The best deal the Celtics could make for Prince is Wallace, Gaffney, Lafayette and Bradley (when they can trade him in a package deal).

I would be ok with that deal if the Celtics sign Nate and someone like Butler.

I'd say Prince not only isn't "killing them" but could actually net them a ton at the trade deadline.

Remember what Theo Ratliff's deal did for us, and he could barely play at that point.  Prince could help a team down the stretch and clear space for them.  That's worth a lot.

I don't believe so. You can't sign and trade another team's FA back to them. I believe the Pistons have his rights.

Nevermind...a little research shows that he is guaranteed for 9 million out of a 12.5 million dollar contract in 2012-13. DO NOT WANT.

Yup, if the PIstons want to do a salary dump, the C's can trade the buyout Wallace contract, and the non guaranteed Gaffney, Lafayette deals with a future 1st rounder and net Prince.

The pistons could save a lot of dough and pick up a first rounder for letting Prince go a year early.
