Still not too late to rebuild?

You never know what Danny might be able to pull out--but even the most optimistic of you guys can't be lookin' at what's left of the free agents (the ones we can realistically afford w/vet min) and say you're encouraged by the bench we can put together. Suddenly Quis is sounding better, and Morrison and GGreen are even being put out there--and posters are being SERIOUS about it!  The dregs that are left are the players we're talkin about playing 20min so PP, KG, and Ray don't get overused..and praying they don't get an injury and miss a few weeks.
Danny said when he took the job he wasn't doing it to "be competitive", he was going for championships.  Well, unless he pulls out a couple of miracle moves, there's no way we'll be playing for a title! As good as the big 4 are, we're too old not to have a real good bench.  We're light years away from even adequate!
Been a C's fan for 53 years, and will never stop rooting for them, but I just think now's the time to change direction and build around Rondo!

I have heard something like this every year since 2008.

You know...the odds are the Celtics won't win a title this year, and the year after the odds might even be worse, but the odds are against the Lakers, Magic, and Heat, too. The fact of the matter is, though, we *do* have a shot at it with this crew and we need to take that shot.

The time to rebuild will come soon enough. We can wait awhile before we rush into it. The time could be two years away...or in 6 months, if one or two of PGA go down with injury. Danny doesn't think the time is now, and I'll trust Danny to judge that.

This offseason would have been a great opportunity to rebuild until the Pierce deal happened. I believe there would have been interest in Garnett as well, with lots of cap space out there to absorb big contracts/work three-way deals.

What happened is ownership likely 1) made the determination that Pierce should stay a Celtic and 2) was not ready to make the Celtics mediocre again and lose all the other benefits having a successful team bring in Boston. Those two factors means they will not rebuild. The potential availability of free agents did not play a factor at all.

I suppose if Ainge came in and said definitively, this team has no shot to win a title the next two years, they'd consider blowing things up. But how can you say that for sure when they made game 7 of the finals and lost without their starting center? I thought the window was over the year before but they surprised everyone. So I can't confidently make the claim now that they have no or little shot.

It's too late now. The opportunity has come and passed.

The next opportunity will be in 2012 and even that is going to be severely hampered by Paul Pierce's contract. It's not good, not good at all.

As others have said, it's way too early to panic.  Also, if this team goes into next season with those already signed, plus Nate, Bradley, Marquis, and a minimum guy at the 3 and a minimum guy at the 5, this team can still win it all...it'll just be less likely. 

Garnett could be better this year, two two years removed from injury.  Rondo could take the next step and become the premier point guard in the NBA.  Ray could catch fire in the playoffs and never go cold.  Jermaine O'Neal could blossom as he'll often be the last player on the court opposing defenses will worry about. 

Of course all of that could NOT happen.  However, it's way, way too early to talk about rebuilding. 

And even if that was the right idea (and it's not), it still simply isn't going to happen after Ray and Paul just signed extensions. 

Whoops Cinderella it's past midnite now. Danny has no balls left. Rondo will get wasted for a few years now and no incentive for more $$. He will just coast.

If he knew how to shoot, I'd say he's being wasted, but his game is far from polished where he can carry a team.  He needs the Big 3.

  I would have bet on it. It's a celticsblog ritual that occurs every summer. "The Boston Celtics, *as presently constituted*, have no chance at winning a title". It never get old.
