Eh.  With Q-Rich going to Orlando, Barnes is definitely out of there.  Which means they might be willing to get something out of him in a trade to Boston, even if it's only a couple of 2nd round picks, and you would have thought somebody else would have picked up James Posey three years ago after being part of a championship team in Miami.

In the Cs situation, looking to win a title in the next season or two and then likely going into rebuilding with either a lot of cap space or by trading expiring contracts for big time players, even the sort of 2nd round picks Ainge makes are worth sacrificing.

LOL...I really enjoyed that game. Barnes vs Kobe was quiet funny; and the Magic I think ended up winning that game.

To me he was one of the only players on the magic that consistently played hard.

If he can be had for the vet min then there is no reason not to take him on the team.

He is basically a more expensive version of Scali.

In Scal's best season with the Nets, he averaged 6.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists.  Last season, Barnes averaged 8.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists.

So yeah, Barnes would be the equivalent of the player Ainge thought he was getting when he signed Scal.  Which means he'd be significantly better and more productive than the Scal who's actually played for Boston.

I have been hoping the celtics sign matt barnes for the past two seasons.  he would be a PERFECT fit basketball wise!

only reason i see he might be bad is his girlfriend is involved with that basketball wives show, and maybe that would be bad for the locker room.

I'd rather have Josh Howard if we could get him somehow. He would certainly make up for the void that TA is leaving.

Last season wasn't his best, but when he was in Dallas he was solid.

I'd say more than solid.  He averaged nearly 20 ppg for 3 years on a contending ball club.  To have a player of that caliber as our primary backup to Pierce and Allen would be incredible.  Doc could actually feel comfortable taking Pierce and Allen out of the game, both during the regular season and playoffs, and that would do wonders for June games. 

He's worth the risk given our economic situation.
