In the other thread discussing Tony's departure, I expressed my disappointment in the fact that Tony would simply walk, and the Celtics would get nothing in return for one of their few remaining assets.

I am curious that the numbers on Allen's new contract have been announced, but nothing else official has happened.

I am hoping that Danny and Wallace can work out something. I would be very happy if a mutual sign-and-trade of Ronnie Brewer back to Boston could happen.

Too bad Danny can't sucker Minnesota into giving us Sessions and Corey Brewer for Rasheed's contract.

WELL, for me and all my opinions..I don't have any here...i have no idea what they are thinking, or are going to do..i would have signed TA...3 years, big deal, he'll be 31-ish....now how are we going to replace our #1 defender of their # 1 man.....???  We'll have to ask mayor menino or deval patrick to pull out that magic bag of money they keep using to give out raises and hire friends...

I hope Tony does well in Memphis.  I always like players who play hard.  That's sort of my number 1. criteria for whether I root hard for a Celtic player or just generally support the player because he's on the Celtics.  If a player plays his butt off, especially on the defensive end, I will always root for him, whether he plays for the Celtics, the D-League, Europe, wherever.  And if he's well-liked by his teammates and coach and people around the team, then I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for most off-the-court issues.  Tony's effort showed up not just in his defense but also in stealing the ball at a rate second only to Rondo in the league.

As far as offense, he's not a zero like some are saying.  TO's and no outside shot are the issues, but he did have success getting to the bucket, filling the lane on fast-breaks, second chance buckets, etc....Keep in mind there many players who don't even offer this.  I don't see why he won't average 8-14 points per game if given minutes, more if he can limit the mistakes on offense (therefore getting more minutes).  I agree he's a roller coaster on offense.  I didn't love it but it was always off the bench and to me he was almost always a net positive when healthy.   Regardless of his worth in dollars (smart move financially or not), I'll miss him.

I'm hoping Avery B. will get plenty of minutes at the 2 and provide some defense there despite his small stature.   Agree his addition could have played a part in not resigning Tony.  I hope whoever we get for backup 3 can replace some of Tony's energy and enthusiam along with his hoped-for defense and outside shot......

I agree he's not a zero on offense.  He averaged 6 points in 16 minutes and shot 51%.  That's pretty decent for any player coming off the bench, never mind a defensive specialist.

Truly sad to lose T. Allen who is one of the best defenders in the guard/forward spot.

Just like Lakers lost Farmar you just can't keep everyone on a really good team.

Should have let R. Allen go

The concern for me is that we only have the vet min with a chance to contend to offer. Miami has the vet min, a chance to contend, a chance to be part of something never been done in sports and...Miami.

What do you think the Heat can do that's never been done in sports?

Woah... I'll take Ray over Tony any day. Any year as well. Tony's defense is excellent, but on offense Rondo NEEDS a shooter beside him if the Celtics want another title.
