First they gave Outlaw an incredibly generous  7 mil a year contract... Now they have just signed Johan Petro to a 3 year 10 million dollar deal... Yikes, they are getting desperate.

I like Petro, but that's a lot of money...but then again, I would take this deal over some of the others this offseason.

After this deal, it should be Board policy that anyone who complains about Jermaine O'Neal's deal should be banned for life.

Also, remember two days ago when everyone was raving how cool Prokhorov was?  Not so cool anymore.

Or the Pierce or Ray signings (not that anyone has complained about them).  Danny has really gotten some steals this summer, based on the kind of money being thrown around.

$3.3M/year for a backup center is a decent deal.
This is a much better signing than the Travis Outlaw deal.  I think this is decent by the Nets.
Celtics fan for life.

I agree.  He's a proven, serviceable, 7' backup center, he's only 24, and his 40-minute numbers are actually pretty good. $3.3M/yr is not a big deal for that.

Besides getting Favors in the draft, the Nets have had an ATROCIOUS off season.  If they had any fans, they would be murdering the team right now.

Bruce Willis is a Nets fan and he can murder them all if he wanted to. He'll think about it.

Yeah but he doesnt play 40 minutes a game... Yes he is young and tall but he averages 12 minutes a game and like 3 points 3 rebounds. 3.3 a year?!! for the guy is just crazy talk.

And I think the larger problem is that New Jersey gave this contract.  If this was a team over the cap re-signing their own player, fine.  However, if your NJ, you're not winning anything this year anyway.  Why commit 3 years at 3 million a year to a guy, who at best, will be your backup center of the future?  Why not just get a minimum guy this year and save yourself the cap space next year?

Hopefully this thing is very, very frontloaded.

i don't see what the big deal is here? no pun intended...

anyone who paid attention to the nuggets when kenyon martin got injured in March knows that Petro did more then an admirable job filling in and provided solid rebounding and impressive post defense.  Remember this is a 7 footer who is only 24 years old and now has now played real minutes for a playoff team.  The Nets have the luxery of continuing to bring this kid off the bench and allowing him to develope - if he does continue to develope at this rate the Nets will have a very nice core of young bigs.

This team essentially lost out on the one guy they had hoped for. So, now they are making up for it by signing guys like Outlaw to deals they don't deserve aka overpaying. I think Morrow will continue to be a fine shooter in the league, but again, seems a bit much for a guy who was backing up Maggette or starting when he was injured.
