Doesn't sound like breaking news in itself but it's a good sign in my opinion. If we can (and I think we do, it's realistic) bring TA and Nate back with some salary raises for both, and then trade Sheed's contract for a 6th man scorer wing/guard and sign Kwame as a reserve big we will be stacked.

This lineup would be great :

Rondo/Bradley/Nate
Ray/Bradley/TA
Pierce/Miller or Howard or Gomes or Barbosa (not a wing but still)
KG/Baby/Harangody
Perk (when healthy)/J.O/Kwame

I'm hopeful about Bradley but you have him a little high in your depth chart.

Yeah, I wasn't sure I would put him in front Nate and TA when making my depth chart but I have high hopes for him. :P Anyway, if he can contribute and get good minutes behind TA and Nate, that's fine with me too!

Yeah especially since Nate and TA would not be coming back to be a 3rd string PG!

Getting both of them back would be awesome. Nate given a whole offseason knowing the offense could be twice as dangerous as he was last year especially if he continues to show he can be a pest on defense.

TA will be resigned. I'd be a little surprised on Nate, but i think it depends on what happens with Sheed's deal.

Brings up a good question. Do you want proven guys slotted in the 2nd unit or are you willing to roll the dice with Bradley?

If those 2 come back, Bradley is kind of burried like Giddens, and Bill Walker before him.

This is GM speak for "no comment".

I don't think this really means anything other than they are not kicking them out the door.  Whether they come back or not will likely be determined by the price.

Bringing them both back would be great.  I really think the Cs would have benefited from playing TA and Nate and little more during the Finals.

Agreed. Sounds like we may have the entire band back together, with JO on backup vocals instead of Sheed.

Realistically, though, I think we are looking at the following:

Rondo/Nate/Bradley
Ray/TA
Pierce/vet min wing (Rasual Butler?)
KG/Baby/Harangody
JO/Kwame/Perk (in street clothes until after the All-Star Break)

With possibly Sheed's contract landing a scoring wing in return (bringing the roster to 14).

I didn't expect Danny to look at resigning Robinson after he drafted Bradley.  I'm surprised we're still interested in bringing him back.  I'm glad we are though.

With both sides interested, what are fair deals for Nate and TA?

I'm thinking $3-4 per year for about 3-4 years.

how about $10/3?

  • You know my methods, Watson.
I think Tony is "iffy" because this is his shot to go for the bigger payday.  He was healthy and showed his wares in the playoffs.  I get the feeling someone is going to overpay for him (in both years and dollars).  He's not one of those "bring back at all costs" type of players.

I personally have a disdain for him, but I'm willing to put that aside as I think he fits a role.  But if he gets a better offer and leaves, I'm totally fine with that.

I believe Nate will come back as the market won't be as big for him and the Celtics gave him an opportunity here (and an escape from NY) that he's appreciated.

I would love to have both back. TA played great D last year and Nate showed what he can do in the playoffs. I think we would need a scoring man behind Pierce like Rasual Butler but then who could we trade Sheed for? But I am not crying about that situation because its a good one to be in. I think we could have one of the best if not best bench in the league.

Nate-Scorer
TA-Nothing but D
Butler-3 point special
BBD-Beast in the paint
J Oneal-Good defense and Decent offense

I would really like this team if we can get something like that to go so we will see!

Can someone enlighten me on the salary cap rules?  I thought that since Nate was only signed to a 1-yr deal, we didn't have his "Bird" rights, which means we could only sign him to a vet min contract if over the cap.  Is that true?  And do we have Tony's "Bird" rights?

We can still sign him within a certain range of his current salary. Something like within 15-20 %... not that Nate is worth anything above 5 million.
