According to RealGM and Marc Spears:

Haywood was the best FA center option out there. He's getting paid.

WOW!

Suppose it was to be expected.  With Dampier on the way out, Dallas was in need of a massively overpriced big man.

Haywood was the guy I wanted, but I was pretty sure Cuban wouldn't let him go.

JO was prob the only good center out there left, and we got him...just got my fingers crossed that he stays healthy.

The market is crazy this year. Danny made the right choice by signing JO or we could have been left with Kwame.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
This free-agency is no different from past years. Teams always overpay, but people expected it to be different this year due to the owners complaining about going broke. These idiots just don't know when to stop. Now imagine what a healthy Perk will most likely get next season.

Chris Mannix just reported that he heard the 6th year is non-guaranteed.

Espn has it here too.

So Jermaine at under six mill per year or Haywood at 9 mill per year? Hmmm they are both basically the same age... Jermaine for two years or Haywood for six... O'Neal is a better scorer... hmmm... No brainer! I will take Jermaine!

Haywood will get paid as much as Rondo will, only with a one-year longer deal. That's insane. :o

I figured he was out of our range. And Dallas NEEDS him. Money is kind of nutty, but starting centers get paid.

Look at Haywood's contract as being a reference point when Perk starts asking for an extension.

Haywood is more durable, and probably less washed up. And younger.

In this case, I'm sort of wondering who Cuban/Nelson were bidding against? The teams with capspace are set at Center and that only leaves MLE competition.

If Miami loses out on LeBron, Miami might have come in with a good-sized offer.  They have a HUGE hole at the 5, and if LeBron goes elsewhere they'd still have enough money to go after Haywood.

Not sure they would have offered him any MORE money that what Dallas gave him, though.
