How can anyone be disspointed with the move ?  You don't have a Center til Jan, Feb.... What else can you do ?

You now have one that put up good numbers the year prior, and has time in the league.  Thats better than throwing Erden to the wolves.  A lot better.

I just straight-up like this move...the only caveat is injury history, but given his production even last season, this seems like a terrific move even money-wise.

It's a huge opportunity for O'Neal.  He really has a chance to flourish here and be a part of a contending team.

Its what I expected. Even if he signed for 4 million of the mid level exception, that didnt leave us much more than the vet min.
Look at what Haywood just signed for and you can see this isn't so bad. There is not much out there and in  my opinion O'Neal can play the most minutes...

Now if we can trade Sheed's contract for a back up point/wing player.. we will be alright.. I love Barbosa and what he could do for the second unit.

* I fully expect Kwame Brown to sign for vet minium..essentially taking Sheldon Williams spot.

completely agree. plus, for the majority of the season he'll probably be our starting center. he's being handed a huge opportunity, so hopefully we get an incredibly energized player.

I think Danny is batting 1.000 at this point. let's hope it continues.

Good news. Of course it would have been better to sign him with a portion of the MLE only, but realistically it was not going to happen... another steal for Danny, considering Haywood got 6 years, 55 million ! As much as Rondo with one more year only! Shocking.

Plus, I like the length of the deal. 2 years is perfect.

Jermaine O'Neal was the perfect fit and the best big man we could afford out there so great addition, he will fill in nicely defensively for Perk and he has a better offensive game. I hope he stays healthy though (it's a concern).

And to think Danny signed Ray, Paul and J.O for 31 millions "only" on this crazy market... we're lucky!

Now let's trade Sheed for a scoring wing or guard!

We better get something good in return for Rasheed's contract.  Otherwise I would have rather Sheed stay and us use the MLE on a wing.

Excellent move.  We're getting a capable starting center for a couple years at the mid-level exception.  It's true that he has some flaws, but when you're using the mid-level to get a starting center, you're not going to get a perennial all star or anything.  This is about the best we could hope for.  Looks like a good offseason so far for the C's.

Like most others, I'm a bit stung that we had to use the full MLE on JO, but heck that's what Sheed got so seems ot be the going rate for centers in the twilight of their careers.  ::)

We still need another big man and a wing.  Somebody suggested Morrow and Turiaf for Sheed's contract.  Then re-sign Tony and I'm done.  Fill out the roster with SL guys like Haranbody and maybe Lafayette (and Avery).

The answer is Miller. Give him 4 years at 7.5 per in exchange for Sheed's deal, a second round pick and cash going to Washington.

I would welcome this trade with open arms but I'm not sure Washington would do it. I guess they can get more than simple cap relief for Miller. Sure, you throw some cash and a 2nd round pick but I don't think that's enough.

Miller would be the perfect 6th man for this team but I'm not sure I would love to put all my eggs on this basket considering his injury history (see Daniels, Marquis and how it played out last year).

Wow this looks like great news!!

The entertainment side of my brain wanted Shaq. The team chemistry/logic side of my brain wanted Jermaine.

Doc, Pierce, Ray, Jermaine.... keep 'em coming Danny!!

Danny had 6 things he had to get done this off-season.

1. Get Doc to come back. Check!

2. Re-sign Pierce. Check!

3. Re-sign Allen, not breaking the bank.  Check!

4. Sign a rebounding center to cover for Perk's rehab. Check!

5. Sign a shooter/wing(6) to back up Allen and Pierce.

6. Fill the bench slots, the Tony, Nate, Scal, Sheldon roles.

I'd say he's 4 for 6 so far.

He has Sheed's contract, vet mins, rookies, and a 20% raise for Nate and Bird Rights for Tony to cover 5 and 6.

He has a good chance to go 6 for 6.

Darn, really was hoping it wasn't the full MLE. Oh Well we had to get a Center! He was realistically our best option.
