i believe the knicks will have to renounce lee in order to sign lebron...
They will, but I believe a sign and trade with Ray Allen or another trade with Sheed's contract is very workable.

They could do this before they officially sign either LeBron or Amar'e.

Of course the OP is making a big assumption that LeBron is going to the knicks.

This is never going to happen, they've been offered much better for Lee. LeBron could make them but I just don't see him doing that knowing that they could trade Lee for someone younger and just as good if not better.

I cant think of any scenario where this works for them. I mean if Lebron doesn't go to NY then there's a 0% chance and if he does there's a 2% chance he has them do it before he signs. The more likely is LeBron convinces Ray to come play for a pay cut and we get nothing.

I hope Ray stays cause we don't have a good backup plan in place. Unless Bradley can start as a rookie at SG which I'm going to highly doubt.

yeah, i'm not sure what their sign and trade options really are if Lebron wants to go there.

Storeytellers has them at 17.783 mill, plus minimum holds is about 23.76 mill. So if the cap is 58 mill, lebron signs for 17, amare for 17 (i think that's what his deal must start at to be worth 99 mill over 5 yrs with 8% raises), that gets NY to 57.76 million, minus two minimum holds for new players, is 56.1 million or so. To do that, they would need to renounce everyone else, so that can NOT sign and trade lee after they sign those two guys, and they canNOT sign and trade Lee before hand unless they take back only vet mins or about 2 million maximum in contracts.

So if they get Lebron and Amare, they can only sign and trade Lee to a team already under the cap so they can take back just 2 million in salary (so no golden state for Randolph rumor; even though randolph makes 2 mill, G.S. is too close to the cap to take Lee's salary on unless it's Lee to 3rd team, player x making 2 mill to G.S., Randolph to NYK) OR Trade Lee to a taem for a nullifiable contract that will not count against the cap (i.e. SHEED!).

SO if Lebron goes to NY, they CANNOT s&t Lee for Ray (no salary room), but they could s&t him for Sheed, Gaffney, Lafayette, and a future 1st (with lee signing 9.9 mill per year) such that sheed retires, NY maintains the space to sign Amare and Lebron, AND recieves a pick to help round out their roster going forward instead of letting lee go for free.

The ONLY way I see NY ending up with Ray, Amare, and Lebron would be:

Curry+Lee @ 9.9/yr

for

Ray @ 11/yr, Sheed, Gaffney, Lafayette.

That way ray slides into Curry's salary spot, maintaining the cap space, the C's keep all their picks and get Lee.

Of course only do this if you know you can swing curry's expiring for a different SG (Ellis?) making 11 mill or so themselves.

Getting Lee in any trade would surely be a steal for us; thats why it ain't happening. We wish we could get Lee. I wish we could get him. Luckily its not for us bloggers to influence the top brass on making their whatever dubious decisions they seem be considering.  We seem to be living from how good we were and not how bad we are now. 1 title in 24 years is not something to brag about. Oh yes, there are other teams that have never one 1 title so I guess we are in the mix.I mean,we were.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

Absolutely sign me up for that!  I would welcome David Lee with open arms, and wish Ray well.

I don't think this would make the Knicks in line for a championship.  Defense wins championships, and with a coach who doesn't push it at all, and with Lebron being the only good defender on the team, they'd be very vulnerable.

Looks like Lee is on his way to Golden State for Anthony Randolph, if LeBron doesn't sign with the Knicks

Looks like they already have a deal in place, so I wouldn't count on anything happening concerning Lee and the Celts.
