The Celtics are losing some of their confidence about re-signing Ray Allen and have begun kicking the tires on possible replacements.

A. Sherrod Blakely of CSN New England reports that Boston has had discussions with the representatives for wing players Rasual Butler and Antoine Wright.

"I don't know," Rivers said when asked about Boston's backup plan. "But none of them can really replace Ray."

Please stay Ray... Please stay.

Ray has some real good options right now. Both Miami, and chicago  have a strong need for ray, and the money to grossly over pay him.

Im worried.

Honestly, it doesn't make ANY sense letting Ray walk.

None.

At all.

The only good thing about losing Ray is that Doc would no longer be able to lean on him like a crutch.  There was no reason for Ray to play as many minutes as he did in the Finals, given how terribly he was shooting the ball in every game except #2.

I don't think the NECN article was nearly as negative as the RealGM blurb made it sound:

Quote
As much as the Celtics would love to get a deal worked out for Ray Allen quickly, Rivers anticipates it will be a while before Allen makes a decision which doesn't necessarily bode well for Boston's chances at re-signing him.

Rivers told CSNNE.com that he and Allen talk frequently. Because of those conversations, Rivers anticipates the process of bringing Allen back will take some time.

"He's going to wait. He's doing his business, and I'm fine with that," Rivers said. "I just hope we get him back."

Rivers acknowledged it has been difficult at times knowing that both the Celtics and Allen want to reunite, but well aware that Allen has to do what is best for him and his family which is to explore all the options at his disposal.

"It is nerve-wracking, because some one can come along and pay him more than we can pay him," Rivers said. "That can happen. We have to be prepared for that as well."

Utah's Kyle Korver is among the better shooting guards available this summer. The Celtics have already had discussions with the representatives for wing players Rasual Butler and Antoine Wright.

"I don't know," Rivers said when asked about the C's backup plan. "But none of them can really replace Ray."

Real GM sucks! They always put BS together and call in news. Ray will be in Green again or we get something of value for him. I can't see him just walking. We won't let that happen after resigning Pierce. Ray will be a Celtic next year.

Thank you Roy TP.  Realgm does make it sound much worse.

Weren't we talking about Wright and Butler 5-6 days ago?

here's a bunch of if's.  if ray is leaving and if the espn story about ray to the thunder is close to true, how about a s&t for jeff green?  seems the thunder may not know what to do with him now that they have signed durant to the big contract.

Like Ray won't give the Cs a chance to sign him at the end of the day...

Anyway Wright would be a TA replacement, not a Ray replacement...

I think with Ray and Paul's ages, they need two reliable backup wings.  Last year we only had one.  I mean look at what Doc was able to do with KG's minutes because he had the luxury of having BBD and Rasheed to backup KG and Perk.  Since Doc really only had TA, it forced him to overplay Ray and Paul.  If they can get another wing (particularly on that's a borderline starter), I'd be incredibly happy.

And I think that's what all this is about.

TA was hurt most of the year and even when not hurt he didn't play that great. He really asserted himself in the playoffs.

If he can play like he did in the playoffs I'm ok with him playing 20 minutes a game. This would allow more rest for both PP and Ray (god willing). I think if we add another wing of good quality like a Morrow, M. Miller or Reddick and have Bradley earn some minutes we'd be in great shape.

sorry, but ray's not this irreplaceable guy anymore.  if he leaves, he leaves.  we'll move one and we'll be fine.

Wait. You're saying that a basketball news website is trying to manufacture/spin a story where there isn't one?

Shocked. Shocked, and appalled.
